6 people for $78 a day is not bad for your lazy arse.
You can call cruises trashy all you want, but you have to appreciate the effort that the staff does on cruises. From the guys cleaning and making up your room, to the waiters at the meals, the bartenders at the bars, and the ones cleaning up after you all day long put out a lot of effort.

I mean that's $390 of shite a day... on a cruise.

I was just assuming that people on cruises are getting tanked all day so $15 a meal and $33 for drinks and whoever else you would generally tip on a cruise seems ok to me. Maybe I just tip more than I should. IDK..

That's $13 a person per day. Seems pretty fair to me.

That's certainly reasonable.. I had assumed he was solo.

ETA: I think I misinterpreted your post... I'm not tipping $15/meal on cruise meals.. at least not individually.

Now I can see tipping $33 on drinks because I would be drinking nonstop, since I'm on a cruise.

Didn’t happen on a Viking Cruise. You must have booked the wrong cruise.

Why wouldn't you put that it was 6 people in your OP? Surely you see that you're implying it was $78/day for just you.

Tipping is an awful practice that needs to go the way of the dodo.

Ah,whole family. Not sure what cruise line you are on, but think of all the service you get during the day, at restaurants, bars, pool, room steward. It's not that bad when you think about it, and you don't have to tip at the end if you don't want.

We usually give our room steward something additional for the week.

Heard two ladies talking about how the companies like Norwegian give you the option to prepay tips. They said they liked doing it that way, but they said they still tipped the guy that took care of their room extra.

Yep, you just opt out of the cruise. You avoid both the gratuity and the hepatitis!

Cruises are pretty trashy and they attracted trashy people who normally don’t tip... so... You can’t really fault the cruise.

You louisiana folks need to find a less trashy place than NOLA to board a cruise. You wouldn't think they were trashy if you tried something other than the oldest carnival ships.

Don’t take it off. The cruise staff keeps a list of people who remove the automatic gratuity. Tip extra to your waiters and steward for awesome service.

They are making up for all the money they lost on the cruise in which part of the ship flooded.. Assuming it's the same company..

I saw that they refunded everyone's money and gave them half off on another trip.. They lost their arse off on that trip..
