Will there be a tip line on every receipt I have to sign throughout the cruise ?

You'll see the added tip on every drink you order on the receipt. Your prepaid gratuity is for all the other stuff.

The problem is a whole lot of people in general do not tip or tip next to nothing when they are out of town, on vacation, etc.

Why is this a "problem?" Just charge me another 12 bucks per person per day and let that be the cost of the cruise. Then the cruise line can just pay the people the money. It is already a mandatory fee. It doesn't need to be called a tip.

Yep.
Then in top of it they add in tips for the beverages.
And in the last day you are expected to tip your waiter and your housekeeper directly.

It's not mandatory, you can have it removed.

Though you may get dirty looks from the Filipinos.

Karma’s a bitch. Maybe you shouldn’t have ripped off those poor people running a taco stand a few weeks back.

restaurants that normally dont do it have to do it or they would have no employees.
Then maybe they should, I don't know, set their advertised prices to where they are profitable while paying their employees enough to keep them on staff.

Again, I'm not referring to cruises specifically.

If people are not going to tip or tip next to nothing at bars and restaurants in touristy areas, then the auto gratuity is a necessity.

Well dude, that is just not how it works in the service industry in America.

It's Carnival. And 2009 is pretty old.

Ok. But it's hard to change a system that's been in place for decades.
We will ban guns and have universal healthcare before we remove tipping.

I know that, and my point is that it needs to change. It's obviously not going to change on the industry end, so if it ever changes it'll have to be because consumers made it happen. I realize we have a LOT of bigger fish to fry, but the mindset here applies to a lot of our other problems, too. I just think we should stop accepting that things are the way they are because it's how they've always been, and instead think about how we want things to be and work toward that.

I'm not saying we should remove tipping. We should always be free to pay whoever we want however much we want for whatever reason. I'm just saying that tipping shouldn't be so ingrained into the way things are that consumers (like most in this thread apparently) are just fine with companies hiding the true cost of services behind tip fees and other bullshite.

At the discretion of the guest, they may adjust the gratuities at any time while onboard. Gratuities will be deemed undisputed unless a request to modify is received prior to disembarking the ship.

They're suggesting an amount. It can be adjusted or removed. You have to opt to prepay gratuities and you can still adjust them at your discretion anytime prior to disembarking at the end of the cruise.

This is a non-issue.

It's in no way mandatory. It's just automatically included. Just got back from a Disney cruise. You could purchase a gratuity package. But when I was at the service desk, I noticed they had a stack of the pre paid gratuity papers where people marked them up and changed the amounts during the trip. None of this is set in stone. Although I can't imagine what it would take to change it.

Tip the stateroom host, and even on the shitty Carnival cruise I took years ago, they take care of you (Not going to pretend Disney was elite)

Tip the waitstaff. We had the same waitstaff the whole time and they knew us by name. If we never attended the sit down dinner, I might feel differently. But by the end, I felt like I should have possibly tipped more. 100 or so bucks for five nights of 4 course meals for 3 people isn't exactly expensive.

This is standard across all cruise lines, even the high end ones.

The tips go to lots of people you don't necessarily see who make your trip really nice. So don't go taking the tips off because one a-hole was rude to you at dinner. That punishes everyone. I usually tip extra for our room steward and they will go above and beyond for anything we ask. I hand them the money the day we get on the ship and it is pure bliss.

Edit: oh, and trashy...
