So I just found out that gratuity is automatically billed to me on a cruise

Not sure how I feel about them charging me $78 day for tips regardless of how well I’m served.

I’m not upset over the amount, just feel odd about the auto nature instead of performance award method

Yes. When you are checking in right before you board, they tell you this.

People have not been tipping at all for years, and this is what we've come to.

Never been on a cruise but $78 a day for three meals and a shite load of drinks doesn't sound that crazy. Assuming you're also not leaving cash tips.

I thought the service on my cruise was great. They brought me a new roll of toilet paper anytime I needed one after catching salmonella from the chocolate fountain.

$78 seems a bit much from my memory.

I seem to recall being able to opt out of the automatic gratuity.

How many people? 78 a day is higher than concierge on a lux line. Disney Cruise lines is 16pp per day. NCL I believe is 14.

Wife and I going on a 7 day cruise next week. I pre-paid tips at $216 total!
