re: So doctors are now able to cure Sickle Cell? Seems like it should be a big deal.

You're wrong.

He's right.

I know, it sounds stupid, but there are morons that think that.

Side note: did you know that St Jude treats sickle cell as well and does research on it? I didn’t know that until I visited and was able to tour … many years pre covid.

It’s fantastic that they’re making so much progress in treating a hellish disease like Sickle,Cell. Hopefully after more labs are able to modify the cells, it will be less expensive. Immunotherapies/gene therapies are so encouraging and offer hope for cures as opposed to remission. My husband had a very rare, very aggressive form of Large B Cell Non Hodgkins Lymphoma called Triple Hit. He was approved for CAR-T therapy after relapse; his T cells would have been extracted and then modified at a lab to recognize and attack cancer cells. Cost would have been about $1 million, but our out of pocket was manageable. Unfortunately the cancer was too aggressive to keep it in check long enough for him to receive the treatment and he passed away before they could harvest his cells. CAR-T was previously only available at major cancer centers, but is now offered at Oschsner in New Orleans; I think Our Lady of the Lake may offer it later this year.

What a shitty post. You obviously have never seen a kid with sickle cell. It’s incredibly painful for them. Not quite the equivalent to frickin downs.
