Cad deletes his list of "must try" Asian street food stops and then deletes his Asian city bucket list.

It’s an URI contracted by respiratory droplets

I don't think it was boiling as they are eating it and repeatedly all double dipping

They didn't boil the virus.

At least one of them had it and spread it to the others. It wasn't from the freshly boiled food.

So why does the article highlight that?

Seems the odds of all 9 people getting it from the air are pretty long compared to getting it from the sauce.

You know a hot pot isn’t actually boiling right? It’s just hot water with no guarantee the actual meat gets up to the required temperature.

Off Grid website article citing the CDC recommending 3 minutes of a rolling boil just to ensure water is pure

Even 3 minutes is no guarantee that the meat gets to the 158F they recommend

I figured it was some kind of bat meat or something in the broth they got it from but others are claiming it want from the food in this thread.

They could've spread it either through a variety of ways, including double dipping in food or sneezing in the food. Most likely it was just a nasty mother fricker that sneezed or coughed in a tight space and/or touched things after sneezing in their hand and everyone got the virus.

But if it was through the food, the virus was introduced to the dish well after the food had cooled down to edible temperatures.

I would bet my left nut that this virus doesn't survive boiling temps.

I don't understand your confusion. You posit that they could have all gotten from the food even with boiling, but when people bring up the fact that it could have been transferred via the food, but contaminated after boiling, that's hard to believe? All 9 are still sharing the food, the only difference is when the virus was introduced into it.

Every hotpot I’ve ever eaten in China started out boiling. The problem is they usually turn the temp down as the broth evaporates.

Also, you have other dishes at these places that are cooked in the kitchen that are shared family style as well.

What a stupid thing to highlight (the article not you).

I think being in a confined space together when one of them was sick is the story here (which isn't a story at all)

thats my confusion. did all 9 get it from airborne transmission or did one of the people cough up a loogy in the soup and they all got it from that or was there diseased rat or bat meat in it?
