Well there is an outbreak in Baton Rouge and whether you like it or not, the people in power are going to shut things down unless people can act responsibly until there is a cure or treatment.
I personally know 3 people now that have it in Baton Rouge and they all hang out in the bars in tiger land.
You really think the bars are going to stay open?

Yep I know a handful of my friends kids and their friends who all tested positive this week and they’ve been interacting with more than just other college kids. They’ve been around their parents, grandparents, friends parents and grandparents.

I am over 40 and have major health issues that make me extremely high risk. I stay home and go nowhere (husband works from home and I now work part time from home). My kids are all 21+ and do not live with us. They work and go places but just don't visit us. If you are truly high risk you know how to protect yourself and it is not up to others to do it for you.

"incoming freshmen"
not sure if changes this year for covid but LSU recently put in a requirement of freshmen had to live on campus...unless parent house was under a set distance to the university...
heard they were doing one student per room and minimizing dining and setting up with social distance rules...
off campus housing market is going to probably get tight.... parking is a pain and going to be worse...commuting worse...etc..and if using bus you have that pain and will probably have restrictions also...
some walking distance options but you should call around soon to get a feel...
i have two units just off campus walking distance...closer to quad than some dorms ....... (both in use) and activity is picking up for owners renting out

That's understandable. My wife and I are early-mid 40s. Neither of us have any major health issues. We aren't morbidly obese either.
We've just tried to go about our lives. If we get it I think there's like a 99+% chance we'll be fine. We have a 13 yr old daughter still at home so shes obviously very low risk as well.

If you think your kid will be going to college and not get Covid, you need to retake a statistics class. There is no proof that a vaccine will ever be developed, that it will be safe when if it's developed, and what time line we can expect it to be developed. This idea that we can all just "hide" and never get it is insane. I'm not saying we should all throw ragers and overload the hospital system, but you cannot starve a freaking virus.
If you're older and can do it, sure bunker yourself, but as a society we just cannot do that.

Well this is true in part. But lots of asymptomatic people are now being tested in lots of different contexts. So many of these could be asymptomatic or lightly symptomatic. I would actually like to hear a breakdown on that.

Sounds like those kids should understand that and not partake in risky behavior. I'm literally doing nothing for two weeks before my parents get here as an added precaution.

It can "really affect" anyone.
I know a college girl whose roommate went to Fred's during the weekend, then went to get tested yesterday because she was having some pretty rough symptoms, which included shortness of breath. So yeah, anyone can get it. The rate is lower for young people, but that chance is out there that a young person can get really sick.
The problem now is that her roommates lives are in limbo until the test results are back. They are stuck at home and can't be with family on Fathers Day because their roommate just had to go out on a Saturday night.
And now I'm in a bit of limbo myself because I tutored the girl that I know this week, so maybe I have also been exposed
