I just learned a couple of days ago that Benadryl is super bad for you as well. Ruins your brain and increases chances of dementia by a good bit.
It's usually my go-to when I'm not tired. Needless to say, I won't be doing that anymore.

OTC supplement called CALM. Has melatonin and magnesium. This with a Benadryl should do it, however Benadryl occasionally works the opposite way.

The best: 5mg melatonin and .5mg klonopin.
That’ll for sure work
Doc might give you trazadon

Diphenhydramine HCI 25 Mg
Aka Benadryl. One per night, right before I get in bed. I have no trouble falling asleep, but if I don’t take one, I’ll wake up at 3am, my brain will ramp up, and I won’t get back to sleep for hours. If I take one, I’ll usually still wake up around that time, but I’m just drowsy enough to keep the brain slow and get back to sleep.

I mean you can’t beat sleep on codeine cough meds, but it’ll scramble your brain.
I don't think codeine cough meds are so freely prescribed. Also codeine has the opposite effect on some folks.

NyQuil always works for me to sleep all night . Without it I usually wake up around 2 or 3 and have trouble going back to sleep. I tried zzquil and it didn’t work as well. I also take a double dose as I’m a large man.

I’ve been taking 2 advil PM every night for 10 years. I Sleep 7 hours, hard. Without it, my brain is up 1-2 hours before I can relax and I wake up constantly

Is your mind racing keeping you up? If so, get a white noise machine. Hell, try it regardless and see if it helps. I use one and fall asleep very quickly.

Ironically, while sleeping pills drive up the risk of dementia, insomnia is also believed to be a risk factor for dementia.

Forgo the meds. Try progressive muscle relaxation and listen to the guy linked while in bed. Try it for a week & see how it works for you.
