FTFY

Dude, if you think racists were regulated to the south in the mid to late 20th century, I have some swampland to sell you.

Give specific examples on your idea by comparing Lincoln's letters with Middletons.

Go on.

OK. Here's a quote from Abraham Lincoln during his presidential debate on 18 September 1858:

quote:

I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races … I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races from living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be a position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.

Everyone was a racist in Louisiana back then

This guy was in power in southern Louisiana, which has historically not had as many problems with racism as the rest of the south (outside of the Florida parishes at least).

Doesn’t matter than Alabama or Ole Miss were years behind the curve. This is still very embarrassing for LSU.

You don’t think they are going to force the admin to change the name of the library?

Don't give the first damn if they do. Seems appropriate, truthfully.

Guess Middelton's been rolling over in his grave for some time now because LSU's a lot different than it was back in 1961.

What was Troy thinking about in 1962 to pen this letter on LSU's letterhead?

That any university ever had such an attitude prior to a decade or so after the Civil Rights Act is is a surprise?

You think this is bad, you should look at LSU yearbooks or old newspapers from the 1930s.

I believe a new library has already been in the plans for some time now.

And at all the upvoting by the closet racists.

The thing about the swimming pool is horrific. That’s pretty much a testament to just how awful a lot of people’s mindsets were back then.
And the fact that this post currently has 33 downvotes is a testament to just how awful a lot of people's mindsets still are.

You don't math well.

Letter was BEFORE the Civil Rights Act.

If you are talking about the Brown decision, remember, that only required the removal of LEGAL segregation. It did not require active integration.

You talking about the civil rights act of 1964 or is there another one I am unaware of?
