I think it’s generally accepted that things in south Louisiana ( except for those Kluckers in Tangipahoa) were never as bad as in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina etc. S Louisiana always had that human gumbo thing, that creole thing, that Mediterranean thing that the Scots Irish neighboring states didn’t. There was a LOT more mixing in every respect. In short, far less shitty than other Southern states.

Maybe in South Louisiana, but things got real bad in other parts of the state during the civil rights movement. Lots of unsolved murders from that time in Concordia, for example. Convergence of different klan groups created a nasty situation. Lots of influence from the Natchez area.

That is a slippery slope argument, which is a logical fallacy and therefore fundamentally bad.
The cost/benefit of changing the name of Middleton Library makes it very doable. It costs almost nothing and it makes a lot of people feel better. Sounds like a win.
