Westboro is a fringe quack religious group that has such minimal numbers of people that they are completely irrelevant in every respect. Attempting to associate them with the POLITICAL right is ignorant at best. Using them as comparable to the vast leftist movement Crowder is targeting is willfully obtuse but most likely a deliberate false equivalency.

There really is no comparison between the tactics of the extreme left in this country, whose numbers are in the millions, versus some hypothetical extreme right, who you can only seem to use Westboro to even try and equate tactics with.

Epic fail.

This is addressed very well in this discussion between Sam Harris and Jonathan Haidt. Worth the listen.

LINK

As for Harris, he's a tough one for this crowd. He's part of the New Atheist movement, so for this forum he's the Devil. On the other hand, he calls out radical Islam in a way most hard core conservatives would find incredibly familiar and is constantly being labeled a bigot or racist by the far left...so in that regard he's awesome. And yet, politically, he's very far left of the middle...so he's the Devil again. But...he finds this bullshite on campus to be appalling...so he's ok again.

conservatism (or libertarianism)

To be clear, conservatism and libertarianism are NOT synonymous. They are much closer ideologically with one another than with the movements on the left, but they are not one in the same. Libertarianism embodies a more specific and rigid set of beliefs

You know, things like this make me think "maybe death squads wouldn't be such a bad idea".

nd how many leftists stage armed occupations of government property? How many leftists bomb abortion clinics? How many leftists scoff in the face of modern medicine and refuse to give their sick children vaccinations? Both extremes are batshit crazy in their own special, fricked up ways. Both extremes should be ridiculed and recognized for the imbeciles they are. But please, do not act like extreme right wingers are any better than pussy, otherkin, safespace loving, pansexual, weirdo socialists. They all fricking suck.

Yeah and you can count the number of extreme right wing incidents over the last 40 years on one hand.

The big problem with that kind of debate is both parties are pretty intellectually incoherent at this point. They are not really intellectually driven philosophies so much as variably incompatible voting blocks that have been wedged into the same tent. Fundamentalists and small government conservatives are not innately sympathetic to each others most cherished values - neither are minority rights advocates and worker's unions.

This is absolutely correct and fundamentally important to understanding contemporary American politics. This is why I typically don't use the terms Democrat or Republican when discussing American politics. There is tremendous variation within each party.

And as for those calling for more parties, you have to understand that that necessitates a change in the entire American election structure, which I'm personally open to. The two party system isn't simply the product of conspiracy or collusion among the elites, it's the logical outcome of our election structure. Single district, winner take all, plurality voting ensures that the 3rd parties are relegated to being short term exceptions in the political landscape.

But you also have to understand that each system has its own positives and negatives. European democratic politics aren't exactly without their own shortcomings as anyone who has cursorily followed them is well aware. There are tradeoffs between the two systems and you mind find that even with all our shortcomings, that you prefer our system to theirs.

if she continued to protest like that daily, i'd bet she would lose a lot of that extra weight and he politics could very well change

I have been an adult student for quite a long time and there has been a definite shift in the last 3 years or so to be far more afraid to offend than the 6 years before. It's really disturbing to see how easily offended these students have become.

I like how any time someone points out the extreme right is just as bad as the extreme left they get a flood of down votes.

The confirmation bias on this board is amazing.

the extreme right can be quite annoying

but they are not going around protesting Bernie rallies right now

at this moment in time, the big left is far and away the more annoying contingent

Dude, he used Westboro Baptist church as his example. What's that, a group of a couple hundred idiots at most? As compared to the millions of radical left wing lunatics it's just an ridiculous comparison and worthy of every down vote it gets...

Extremes and absolutes no matter the issue are sickening.

On this board, extremes on the right and absolutes are the norm
