What happens if an economic crisis lasts more than 4 weeks? What if it lasted 10 years. Are 50 rounds of 223 going to get you through that?

Do you think the zombies are going to shout themselves?

To have ammo to shoot when it is scarce and prices are inflated.

Everyone got all worked up answering the "why have a bunch of ammo" question that they forgot he also asked "if you feel like you really need that much then why wait for a crisis to start buying?"

I’m not against stockpiling anything. If society completely breaks down into complete chaos then ammo is going to be the most valuable commodity.
What I don’t have sympathy for is anyone complaining about not being able to find ammo now. Did they seriously wait for a panic to try and buy large numbers of ammo? Anybody that did this is a fricking idiot for starters. Every thread I see on TD about not being able to find ammo screams... “ help,, I can’t plan ahead”. Good grief.

Why do people need so much ammo in the world we live in?
Because you have to shoot periodically to maintain proficiency and then you have to worry about periodic scares that drive up price/drive down availability.

If I have to shoot one person then my life changes drastically, and I probably don't need the other rounds.
So, if you defend yourself once, you never need to do it again? Interdasting.

Do people really think we will get to a point that shooting multiple people on multiple different occasions may be necessary?
I don't think it is likely, but I have homeowner's insurance, car insurance, life insurance, etc. I consider quality working firearms and an ample stock of ammunition to be "stupid people" insurance.

If so, why are they waiting till the last minute to buy ammo?
You have a point here. I stock up between panics when prices are low.

IMO, it's 10x dumber than stocking up on toilet paper.
Ammo is a lot more compact that toilet paper.

The gun/ammo industry profits on fear.
You better widen that brush you're painting doo-doo brown with. How about the milk industry? The bread industry? Toilet paper, canned soup, ramen, condensed milk? How about the socialist democrat, and the republican parties? How about the media, and entertainment industry?
So really, you just have a boner for the gun/ammo industry, don't you?

Adventure Outdoors was selling Aguila .22LR for $0.99 per 50 round box late last year. "Standard Velocity" but it was also the "Eley Primed" stuff, which a lot of people really like.
You'd look like a genius right now if you had picked up a couple thousand rounds of that stuff. I mean, it's a fungible commodity just like gold or whatever.

If things ever really turn to shite in this country, .22LR will be the coin of the realm. You'll be able to buy anything you need with it. I keep several thousand rounds, and buy more when the price is right.

I remember when you couldn't get .22LR. It was circa 2009-2011, I think. Some Obama thing.
I thought 1.98 cents per round was a pretty good price, but there's probably some Reddit neckbeard who'd claim he pays less.

I remember when Obama got elected, I worked with some dudes who were all going out buying more guns an ammo because they just knew it would be a matter of time before Obama took everyone's guns away.
Or find more common sense gun laws to tax them more, effectively. Look at California’s stupid cancer law. Now you can’t buy guns or cartridges in Cali without a warning on them that says they cause cancer... and what in your product causes said cancer...
Stupid stuff like that causes gun and ammo prices to hike because you have to jump through hoops that cost time and money to get your merchandise on the market.
Granted Cali is an outlier, but laws with similar results are in a lot of places. Like, who does that help? Just makes it more expensive for the good guys. Trying to price out people of owning guns is the goal here.

Then it's really none of your damned business how much ammo people buy.

Okay, tough guy. Apparently, you're not very bright. I asked a question and actually got several legitimate answers. But you are not bright enough to answer a simple question obviously.
What's it like being an adult who still lives with his mommy?

Because if a pandemic, natural disaster, nuclear holocaust, famine, panic, economic meltdown, or other crisis causes food shortages or people finding themselves unable to provide for themselves or their loved ones, they are going to without question, pause, or thought come and take your shite and take your life in the process. If you think differently, then you don’t do human much.

People like to think so but there aren't that many occasions historically where things between citizens deteriorated to where this was necessary. Most breakdowns of social order result in most people displaying pro-social behavior. That doesn't mean anti-social behavior isn't exhibited either, with notable exceptions being things like Hurricane Katrina and the LA riots. But the popular idea during WWII was that social order would break down in the event of cities being bombed, when the opposite resulted. 9/11 similar promoted pro-social behaviors with some anti-social outliers.
I do have some theories of why people promote this particular strain of disaster narrative though.
