If Shreveport is so bad, why do the two most famous professional athletes (Todd Walker & David Toms) living in the area, both Airline High (Bossier City) grads live and send their kids to school in Shreveport?

Like the rebar rods that were placed at the top of the drilled piers to make it look like the rebar cages had been put in place but in actuality didnt have any rebar in the piers at all?

Roger, as a guy who grew up there and loved the Captains, I can tell you that white people in Shreveport will kill anything fun. Chalk it up to racism, stupidity, or whatever. I gave up trying years ago.

They abandoned the inner city decades ago. Moved out to places like University Terrace and South Broadmoor. Then when the city started creeping a little too close, they moved out altogether and went to Bossier. Shreveporters have ZERO civic pride or sense of place. If an area has crime or too many black people, they don't go there. Fair Grounds Field was already in trouble for this reason before Moore sold the team to those asshats. Shreveporters don't go downtown. Beautiful neighborhoods like Highland and Centenary left to rot. There are young people there who care about shite like urban renewal and redevelopment of the inner city, but the generations above them have zero interest.

I still love my hometown, but I can't stomach the white people. Just a bunch of provincial, strip mall loving, closed minded crackers.

Dude really? I lived in Highland one street North of Kings highway on Rutherford for 15 years. Loved the Craftsman bungalows there and the close proximity to nearly every thing worth doing in Shreveport. Just moved to South Bossier about 6 months ago and no regrets. Come to think of it haven't heard a siren in that six months either.

There's nothing like having a random shooting take place in your front yard to make you say enough is enough. My son had just taken the garbage out as soon as he gets back in I hear shots. Two hoodlums shooting at random shite. Could have been my son if he was outside any later. I knew it was time to leave way before that but that was the last straw. Also, I had been burglarized many times before that. So don't get all pretentious and say one incident made you run for the hills.

It is not safe in Shreveport at this time period. Murders nearly every night, apathetic City leaders, pathetic public schools, and a overworked police force. It is only going to get worse and you have the balls to criticize and call me a cracker for wanting better for my family frick you!

I don't want to live with drug addicts and criminals literally walking the street in front of my house anymore. I tried to for 15 years. No more. My kids can play outside for once in their lives without me being super paranoid they'll get shot or some pedophile sex offender kidnaps them. If living in a gated community in South Bossier if what it takes for my family to feel safe and normal screw Shreveport. I lived there all my 42 years and will likely never live on that side of the river ever again.

For clarification, the city funded arena is supposed to cost $30MM. The mayor's office has illusions of grandeur about a public/private partnership where a private development firm out of Birmingham brings in retail, residential and a hotel (because apparently that area needs another hotel between the convention center and casinos).

I'm about fed up with the leadership of this city. Nobody wants this dumbass arena but they just keep pushing forward with it. Nevermind that the Captains failed and Fair Grounds field is rotting, the Battlewings failed, the Mudbugs failed, the Mavericks failed and the Ibowl is on its deathbed. This time it's different.

Saddest part is that Cedric Glover is all but guaranteed to run for Mayor again and he'll win.

How is anything I said exaggerated at all? Man, I've lived it and witnessed it first hand. Everything from neighbors stabbing one another, houses burning to the ground while SPFD watched, meth heads knocking on my door begging for money, both my vehicles totalled while they were parked on the street by a drunk and high driver who had no insurance, multiple burglaries, sirens my god the sirens, do I need to even mention drugs? You name it I probably have seen it. All happening on my block and more times than I like to mention on my property.

I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Shreveport. It's where I'm from. I could have moved to a safer spot in Shreveport but it's only a matter of time before it's not safe either. Like many have mentioned corruption has taken over every level of government there with no end in sight.

Moving to Bossier is the best thing I could do for my family. I would not have been able to every forgive myself if something would have happened to anyone of them and all that while I had the means to have prevented it. Answer me this, how much crime should someone realistically endure before enough is enough? I sure as hell know the answer do you?

Comparing Highlands to a gated suburb? You could have moved to that in south Shreveport. And south Shreveport > south Bossier

Nah. South Shreveport will fight back when it starts to hit too close to home. Right now, most of the real problems are too far removed. Out of sight, out of mind. Sure, South Highlands and Broadmoor has petty theft issues, but people can generally protect against that.

I don't know. That is obviously up to the individual. I've lived in Broadmoor for about 10 years now and have yet to experience any crime. My neighbors kids bike got stolen, but it was recovered and the thief was caught within 30 minutes. So

It's funny most in Shreveport who have an idea are begging for the Pelicans to choose another spot.....those that have no idea of reality think it will be great for Shreveport

When you factor in public schools, taxes, crime, and the future of both cities I don't think that is true.

Also, this whole conversation started with someone chastising those who left Shreveport because of crime. Guarantee they haven't experienced or understand what real crime can do to you and your familie's psyche. I wasn't the first to leave Shreveport and I won't be the last. Bossier is growing Shreveport is dying that's a Fact. Hopefully Bossier keeps its shite together or I'll be leaving the state.

It is true and you can go look at the development around Southern Trace to see that truth. Eventually the poor leadership will be removed and there are a lot of folks coming of an age with the means to make serious improvements relatively quickly.

White people don't love their cars and houses being broken into from the North Highland Thugs crossing over Kings into the cracker neighborhoods.

You couldn't be more off base.
