My only point is that Shreveport folks don't care about confronting real big city problems.
Oh they care, just not enough of them to vote out the corrupt Cedric Glovers, Mayor Ollies, and the rank nepotism that goes along with them. Anytime Shreveport has tried to create something worthwhile downtown the usual suspects screw it up.

Yeah, because it's ludicrous that I would want to raise my children in good schools away from crime and poverty. It's not my job to contribute to urban renewal. They broke it, they can fix it. frick me, right?

then why are you in Shreveport? 2 of the best high schools, Loyola and Caddo Magnet are in the ghetto

You really think confronting the big problems, whatever they may be, would change anything? What do you think should be done? Where is the money coming from to do whatever it is you think needs to be done? When you and your neighbors are getting robbed at home, you move to a Gated Community and hope that the rest of the City gets walled up like Escape From New York. Would love to hear your plan, but people move away if it is in there self-interest to do so.

The problem is the ghetto trash breed like rats and outnumber the white community. The majority is poir, uneducated BLACK and will remain that way. New orleans on a smaller scale.

without even knowing any of the details, common sense should tell you there's something shady about a 100mm dollar arena in shreveport
Especially, when it only fits 3000, Tom Benson and Cedric Glover are involved, and you have an empty hirsch colosseum and Municipal Theatre and mostly empty century link sitting a few miles away.
Tell me why a g league nba team cant just lease out the hirsch, the century link, or even the gold dome to play its games. Why should Benson get any free shite from the Shreveport government to put a low level basketball team in town. Pensacola can have that shite.
Any kind of economic driver the Shreveport government thinks this would be is beyond a pipe dream. The fact they added the saints might come to town if they build it is a slap in the face of Shreveport tax payers. They literally said if we build it the saints might come.
The only hope for this place would be if its setup to host various youth sports tournaments and Shreveport could somehow become a host of various youth regional sports tournaments. Then it might not be a complete boondoggle, but who am I kidding, what parents would want to visit dangerous Shreveport for youth sports. This will be Ollie Tylers lasting clusterfrick of a legacy.

You think they could be voted out? The demographics won't allow it. There is ruling class of government servants in Shreveport. You have name a few. They don't do anything to help the problem and are there for the spoils that comes with political power. They are more interested in keeping minorities down than the crakers are if the truth be told. That way all of the wealth, influence, and power ( that comes with things like minority contract requirements) stay in their hands. Keep them fed and voting democratic. Your vote isn't going to change anything because votes are cast on racial lines and the ones who get elected win on that basis alone. How do you think Barbara Norton got elected? Was because she had a great plan for urban renewal? Was it because she was the best candidate? Was it because she was, although total incompetent, the same race as the majority of the voters?

Shreveport is such a shithole and it sucks because so many of the current ghetto parts of town were once beautiful. The post about the white flight was right, but they didn't go from Highland to University Terrace to Bossier. They went out to Ellerbe and Southern Trace. Hell, South Highlands is the closest any white folk live to Downtown. Everything in the immediate area of downtown on every side is run down and ghetto, just abandoned. So sad because Highland has some awesome old houses.

No I didnt, my mistake. But the point still stands. Why should benson get any tax payer money to put a g league team anywhere.

Meh. There are a few, but it's a good community with no crime, good schools, and lots of land. Beats living in a concrete jungle any day. Unless, of course, you aren't married and raising a family and only care about nightlife and other stuff that kids like.
