I've done plenty of work for the City. I'm not surprised by anything.

Does minor league basketball actually thrive anywhere?

Roger, as a guy who grew up there and loved the Captains, I can tell you that white people in Shreveport will kill anything fun. Chalk it up to racism, stupidity, or whatever. I gave up trying years ago.
They abandoned the inner city decades ago. Moved out to places like University Terrace and South Broadmoor. Then when the city started creeping a little too close, they moved out altogether and went to Bossier. Shreveporters have ZERO civic pride or sense of place. If an area has crime or too many black people, they don't go there. Fair Grounds Field was already in trouble for this reason before Moore sold the team to those asshats. Shreveporters don't go downtown. Beautiful neighborhoods like Highland and Centenary left to rot. There are young people there who care about shite like urban renewal and redevelopment of the inner city, but the generations above them have zero interest.
I still love my hometown, but I can't stomach the white people. Just a bunch of provincial, strip mall loving, closed minded crackers.

Includes a facility for the Saints as well

Fairgrounds was an improvement over SPAR, but it was still in a shitty crime infested area.

Sure
Blame the white people

Why in the frick would I want to raise a family around that shite? Are you serious? The reason for the white flight to Bossier is bc the Shreveport Police is incompetent and can't keep its citizens safe.

My only point is that Shreveport folks don't care about confronting real big city problems. They just run from them.
Lots of crime and minorities in big cities everywhere, but those cities can still find a vibe, offer some nightlife, have attractions and activities for families. Shreveport doesn't care about any of that.

When the Port was Big League...

Nothing you have said is unique to Shreveport.
And the younger generations are populating Shreveports neighborhoods.
I don't know anyone that has moved to Bossier. Most people that I know despise even going to Bossier.

S'port had another Steamer team, a minor league team in the late 70s. Supported fairly well at the time

Don't forget the magical run of the purple and orange clad Shreveport Pirates lead by the man, the myth, and the legend: Billy joe Tolliver.

Ahh, typical Shreveport haughty attitude! I sure as hell did. Bossier might be boring but it's great place to raise a Family, the public schools are good & the leadership is very forward thinking...unlike S'port's embarrassing government.

That's not unique to Shreveport. Baton Rouge is exactly the same. It's hard to blame people for fleeing crime.

I guess they're attempting to polish a turd to make the place more attractive for ????
But, bossier is no better. They own the CenturyLink Ctr, it stays in the red as I understand it. Bossier is currently spending millions on downtown redevelopment along Texas ave. Theses fools can't grasp the concept that govt has no business in the real estate business.
And the BC City council never met a tax they didn't like. They were all for building a walmart super Ctr 2 fkn miles from the one on Airline. All they saw was sales and property tax.
The private side of this supposed public-private p-ship on this Shreveport deal will clean house.

North Bossier is full of em.

without even knowing any of the details, common sense should tell you there's something shady about a 100mm dollar arena in shreveport

People like that are fricking toolbags. As if Shreveport is some worldly city and going across the bridge is beneath them.
Shreveport is such a shithole and it sucks because so many of the current ghetto parts of town were once beautiful. The post about the white flight was right, but they didn't go from Highland to University Terrace to Bossier. They went out to Ellerbe and Southern Trace. Hell, South Highlands is the closest any white folk live to Downtown. Everything in the immediate area of downtown on every side is run down and ghetto, just abandoned. So sad because Highland has some awesome old houses.
