I saw pictures of the Shreveport captains stadium it’s all abandoned and overgrown with vines. Damn crime that is how did that happen? Couldn’t the city maintain it and let little league or bossier community college use it? I guess that’s my nomination the Shreveport captains
Right before they shut down they had renovated it and put in bar type seating down close to the field. Tickets were super cheap or somebody always had free tickets. One day was $2 beer and hot dog night. We used to go quite a bit, it was always a good time. Next thing you know they were gone and now the field is trash.

Captains used to be the best dollar value entertainment in town, it’s a shame they let minor league ball escape Shreveport

not long after the Caps left town I got a group of investors together to try and get another minor league team to Shreveport, the local insider clique that controlled the rights to the minor league franchise wouldn’t budge, it was obvious toward the end of the Captain’s time in Shreveport that someone was driving them out, field went to shite, as did concessions, and they used to be great, and the Caps had recently won three championships in a row and attendance was great, it was a shame

Not so much on Shreveport's end, but the new ownership group once Taylor Moore sold the team had a deal in place for a new stadium in Frisco, they just needed a reason to leave. Step 1: Change the name to something everyone hates. Step 2: Take away the traditional baseball atmosphere by adding dancers on the dugouts. Step 3: Watch attendance decline sharply, then tell Shreveport that they no longer support minor league baseball, so their only option is to move to Frisco.

My dad plays golf at Querbes 3x a week. And he still eats at the Cub.
I remember shopping with my mom at Penney’s in Shreve City. They had that twin cinema where I saw Empire Strikes Back, and there was another one down the street - Quail Creek.

Another pleasant little memory (albeit a bit generic) was the common sight of the neighborhood milkman, going from house to house with his little wire crate of goods. Foremost brand, I believe. Shreveport still had that milkman service quite late in the game, when I believe most other localities had ended the tradition. After I moved away, I'd mention to other friends about the neighborhood milkman making his rounds, and none of them had that kind of shared memory. For many years it seemed downright 'strange' to me, to encounter people buying milk at grocery stores.
Shreveport had a lot of little lingering remnants like that. The trolley system was another.
I remember when Eastgate Shopping Center was built. I was sort of sad to see the cotton field go, but it was nice to have a new cinema. I think the first movie screened there was "Rooster Cogburn" (1975) with John Wayne. But I could be wrong. It was at least 'one' of the first.
