Seems like everywhere has the standard option to tip once you swipe your card. I rarely get coffee from cc’s or Starbucks but today I had some time to waste and went. It had me thinking for a nearly $6.16 to be exact cup of coffee should you really need to tip for that? When going out to eat I typically tip 20% so I’m not against tipping just wondering what the norm is at a coffee shop.

What?

I had a drip coffee with a colleague 2 weeks ago at a local shop and it was $2.25. First time I've been to a coffee shop in 5+ years, but I though $2.25 was reasonable.

Because that’s what cc’s charges for a grande mocha?

McDonald's has excellent coffee and a large is no where near $7. And with that McD price you can afford to give Lakisha/Jennifer a dollar tip.

Depends on the transaction and what service was provided. The cost of the coffee is irrelevant and really shouldn't factor into the decision to tip at all or how much to tip.

I don't tip at all whenever I walk in, I order at a window or a counter, and someone hands me my food or drink. If you do that, then why aren't we tipping the walmart stock boy who put the food on the shelf or whatever else.

Delivery? Sure. Restaurant service? Absolutely. To-go food? frick no.

I stop at Dunkin’ Donuts on the way to work every now and then. They have a great crew who are always working their asses off- given that most employees of places like that these days act like you’re inconveniencing them by merely placing an order, I usually throw the change in the tip jar….

I’m spending that much because my wallet was simply too fat this morning and I needed to lighten it. I could of lightened more with a tip so it had me wondering what was the norm?

What about the places that want you to pay in advance AND want you to add a tip on their little tablet BEFORE they prepare your order.

Louis C K has a great bit about coffee baristas and the N word. Anyone not offended easily should check it out.

I'll give $1 if the machine asks, but it doesn't ask at Starbucks, CCs, etc. At least not if you do drive thru.

I may or may not tip for a latte or cappuccino, but there ain’t no way I’m tipping someone for a pour over coffee.
