When I was a kid 65 years ago I thought so. I saw real blood. Remember Mr Moto?

Our family were the only non- believers in our parish. This was the era of Midsouth Wrestling with Junkyard Dog, Ernie Ladd, Kamala the Ugandan Giant, etc. Everyone else bought it 100%.

Kids at school, and this is high school, would be furious when I said it was fake. “Have you been?! If you went and saw it, you’d know it’s real!”

I was at a friend’s house when the subject came up, and his 50+ year old dad started yelling at me, pissed off as hell, defending the authenticity of pro wrestling.

See this is what I’m talking about. Like they believe the results aren’t predetermined and the wrestlers are playing a character? Or are they mad because you are saying a dude slamming into a table or jumping off the top of a cell is fake?

There is a difference.

Plus you’d be dumb to not know they are characters since wrestlers over the years change characters. Like Stone Cold for instance.

It’s like if I said the NFL isn’t real because the games are fixed. But the players are still bashing heads.

I wouldn't tell them. Let them figure it out. Mid South wrestling was popular when I was young. My dad would tell us it wasn't real but it didn't bother my brother and I. And he'd still bring us to watch the matches at Rapides parish Coliseum.

Put the DDT on a friend of mine on the high school bleachers. I thought I killed him. Never did it again

OP needs a figure four leg lock for using the term kiddos, another cringy term that needs to disappear

ETA: of you don't figure out rasslin' is staged on your own by about puberty or maybe a couple of years prior, you're a bit challenged

Maybe just let them figure it out on their own. Kind of like Santa Claus and NFL not being real, too. NFL has more drama plot lines and predetermined outcomes than wrestling.

Yes you should. They may try a suplex from the top rope. Seems it would do damage to both wrestlers. Never understood that one.

I’m a fan since childhood. My folks let me believe. Stossel’s expose on 20/20 was like being told Santa wasn’t real on the news.

I have kids now who watch with me, sometimes. I told them how it all works because I’d feel bad if they hurt one another doing the moves.

They still enjoy the spectacle of it all. I took them to see AEW in New Orleans and they loved it.

Your kid will think you are crazy and also be disappointed if you try telling him too soon.

It is like telling them that politics isn’t real and you are getting fricked regardless.

It was wrestling then. Lou Thesz, Harley Race, etc. It became entertainment in the late 70's as it got more exposure on TV.

How the pros did it may not have been "real", but how we did it as kids, on a trampoline, with complete disregard for life and limb......that shite was real.

What? Do some people really grow up thinking it’s real? I watched it as a kid and always knew it was fake. I mean even when they’d “punch” each other it was obvious they were not really punching each other and were stomping their foot to make it sound like they were making impact.
