Should we build a Dyson Sphere to harvest 100 percent of sunlight?

A Dyson sphere is a hypothetical megastructure that completely encompasses a star and captures a large percentage of its solar power output. The concept is a thought experiment that attempts to explain how a spacefaring civilization would meet its energy requirements once those requirements exceed what can be generated from the home planet's resources alone. Because only a tiny fraction of a star's energy emissions reaches the surface of any orbiting planet, building structures encircling a star would enable a civilization to harvest far more energy.
Should this be the end goal for Solar System-based organisms for the remaining 4 billion years of the Sun’s life?

Sure. We've made it to the moon. Why not encapsulate a star next and harness it's power.

As seen in Star Trek The Next Generation episode Relics.

Not if DSLD is the contractor.

A Dyson sphere
Will work well but cost 2 times as much as other spheres and have a very long cord.

Better off splitting the adom

Better yet let's start gluing nuclei together.

A Dyson Sphere only makes sense in the context of using a solar system as a fueling station. If you also need direct raw light from the star to sustain life within the solar system, a Dyson Sphere is Armageddon.
It’s a fun concept, but the reality is that even in theory, it generally makes more sense to capture a large portion of the energy from a star, with an emphasis on direction, than it does to capture all of the energy from a star.

This isn't the right word.

Why don't we just start out with Nuclear Fusion first?

Nucleosynthesis is too difficult without million degree X-rays to overcome the electro repulsive Coloumb barrier. And we can only do that by kick-starting with a fission trigger, and only in the case of deuterium.
...Nope, it’s Dyson Sphere or bust.

They make good vacuum cleaners.

Liberator wants a Dyson Disc

Seems easy enough.

Maybe the Bissell version would be better?

As I understand it, the theory is generally that a Dyson sphere would start as exactly that but then grow exponentially as the civilization has access to more and more energy.
By the time you get to a full sphere, the civilization is harvesting so much energy from the star that direct “natural” light isn’t needed anymore.
At least that’s how I’ve interpreted it, anyhow.

I thought about going down the road of nerdy but OTT jokes but realized I would sound like Liberator...

viable nuclear fusion is the answer, hydrogen is the most common element in the universe

Sphere no but we definitely should strive to get a dyson swarm going.

frick the sun. Let’s do it.
