Correct. Gender affirmation should simply be treatment to affirm the born gender not the way we do it now. But, like most things with progressives, they do the opposite of what the words really mean. Like diversity, they don't really want diversity of thought. Inclusiveness, only if you're not diverse in thought. Equality, irrespective to effort. The left are basically antonyms of everything they preach.

Transgender people should be medically treated for a mental illness. If they cannot live within the boundaries of their gender at birth, then they should 100% be institutionalized and completely removed from society.
If you're a male and you like females, you're a straight male. If you're a male and you like males, you're a gay male. If you're a woman and you like men, you're a straight female. If you're a female and you like females, you're a gay woman.
That's it. That's the end. If you cannot fit into this, you need to be in a mental institution, completely segregated from free human beings.

Yes, unless they've been adjudicated mentally defective. While most of them are probably mentally defective, it needs to be official if we're going to deprive them of a constitutional right

Saw that after I asked. Which also means that while many of us agree that gender dysphoria is a major mental illness, unless and until a court step in and says this person should now own or possess a gun; a transgender person should have the right to own a firearm.
And even when a court does step in and make this ruling; it still would not have stopped a lot of the high-profile cases as they did not use their own gun.

I think the problem is that we tend to talk about "mentally ill" as a binary: you're either mentally ill or you aren't. While that might be good enough for average conversation, it's not good enough for discussions about rights. So yes, whether you believe transgender people are mentally ill or not, they should be able to legally own firearms if that's your only reason. In the same way, someone who is anorexic is "mentally ill" but we'll still execute the frick out of them if they commit an offense that carries the death penalty.

Mental illness is a pretty broad term.....is a soldier with PTSD mentally ill? Mental illness, mental condition, mental disorder all get thrown around for everything from schizophrenia to generalized anxiety and depression.

I'm kind of saddened by the amount of people that just want to broadly strip rights from people for supposed safety.

When a person transitions the doctor should deem them mentally defective to the courts.
Judges should then sign off on this and so be it.
Or just start sterilizing these folks without their knowledge.

Not even close. Much like with school shootings, it is such a tiny portion of the actual violence perpetuated by gangs, suicide, in the acts of criminal behavior, ect.
