Organ donation policies across the globe

Orange: Opt-out
Blue: Opt-in

Having an opt-out policy so that your oragans are donated by default in the event of your death unless you specify otherwise increases the number of available organs and thus decreases needless deaths because there wasn’t any available. Much like the vaccination debate though and whether the government should be able to force people to have them, I could see where an opt-out policy and your organs being used without your express consent could be construed as a step to far for big government.

Personally since the option is there for you to not have them used I’m perfectly fine with using an opt-out policy and wish the US would adopt it. I can’t imagine someone not choosing to be an organ donor but that’s their choice. I'm ok with them having to proactively make that choice though.

Always opt out in a democracy.

Liberal more than 95% of this site (not really much of a stretch), but your body is your body.

Absolutely. Most people don't give a shite what happens to their body after they die. The minority that does care can be proactive enough to check a box in order to abstain from organ donation. It's one of the dumbest things ever.

Why not? You've been taking organs from old dudes on a nightly basis for years.

No. It should be your choice as to what happens to your body after you die. Don't we already have enough dictated to us by the government?

No, but I believe you should be compensated for organ donation.

I'm both selfish and giving at the same time.

Not giving my organs away to those whom Darwin says shouldn't be around. In this way I keep what's already mine and I give to humanity by strengthening the gene pool allowing the weak to die off too.

It’s my body, not community property. No, opt in is the correct response to organ donation.

No. This is America, not a commy state.

We don’t need to give doctors and businesses incentives to let you die so that they can harvest your organs and sell them to someone else for profit afterwards.

I am listed as a donor, but I must admit that some experience on hospital floors has caused me to think about changing it. Definition of death is a weird one that seems to move a lot when someone is an organ donor.

That said, I’ve also informed my MPOA that I would like to be a DNR pretty quickly. Don’t go cracking all of my ribs so I can lay there with no brain activity.

It would still be your choice and nothing is being dictated.

That’s another great idea that would achieve the same effect (much more available organs).

Besides do you have any idea what they do to harvest your organs? The doctor essentially kills you very slowly while taking each organ off line until theres nothing left to support life. They take everything they can reuse including your bones. When they're done, you're a sock puppet. Limp as geriatric dick.

Besides none of the above being true, your post was spot on.
