re: Should loud motorcycles be outlawed?

The trash is everywhere. The unlimited financing of motorcycles and seadoos will eventually come to an end and your road will be peaceful again. I think it takes a pretty low functioning adult to get excited about making a bunch of motor noise. Don't they know the engineers put a lot of work into making hints quieter? Jesus, just listen and watch a Honda quietly idle and compare it to the vibration machine Harley.

Aftermarket sure, aftermarket that amplifies sound? Nope. Reading is your friend
Reading what? I honestly don't know that much about the muffler laws here because I've never given any though to modifying my mufflers. I do know you can't have exhaust cutouts, but that's about it. I do know aftermarket pipes are legal though.

I have regular pipes on my bike.
And I even get annoyed sometimes from overly loud pipes, especially those obnoxious ones on trucks that think it's cool to blow black smoke for some reason. But just because those annoy me, doesn't mean I'm enough of an a-hole to think they should be made illegal.
If something serves no purpose, causes extreme noise pollution, and a vast majority of people consider it annoying, I think that has grounds to become illegal/restricted, but should be voted on to consider it such.
And lots of those aftermarket pipe alterations ARE illegal. They're just not enforced.
Beyond the discussion of legality, it comes down to not being a fricking dick. People with super loud pipes know damn well everyone gets annoyed by it and that it is considered obnoxious by a vast majority of people, yet they still do it. There are tons of things that are legal, but people don't do because they know its annoying. Just don't be a dick.
Also, noise pollution is actually a pretty harmful thing and something people scoff at BTW.
Google search of effects of noise pollution...

Again, aftermarket pipes that do not amplify sound are legal. And just because sound amplifying pipes are sold does not make them legal to operate on a bike, truck, etc

According to AAA, Lousiana has no limit on motorcycle noise.
Louisiana
No statewide noise limit restriction.

I have never understood why some feel the need to have loud pipes on cars or bikes, I guess its about a need for attention.

There is a protection issue that none of the haters want to lend credence to. Beyond the sound making motorcycles more noticeable to motorists in cars, which is completely legitimate btw, is the ability to deter aggressive dogs from chasing/biting/getting themselves tangled in or under the motorcycle, thereby causing accidents.
If you have loud pipes, typically all you have to do is clutch and hit the gas to scare off dogs intent on getting up in your business. It is understandable that people who drive cars are not aware of, or understand this, but it is used all the time.

So you're saying people should not do things just to annoy others and be a dick?
That seems to be a favorite pastime of many on here. Some of them in this very thread arguing against loud pipes in fact.

Louisiana needs a noise limit on motorcycles. Badly.

I rode a motorcycle (V-Star) to work for 3 years and never once was chased by a dog.

They don't want to hear any of that. They just want to be able to cruise down the road driving their minivan while surfing Facebook in peace and quiet.

Take it up with AAA. It's their website.

People are voluntarily on this website and in this thread.
I didn't want to be next to a guy with pipes so loud it rattles my windows in traffic.

I'm sure stock pipes can accomplish all of this. They are plenty loud.

If a motorcycle makes your windows rattle, you need to get that looked at before they fall of their tracks.

Your brother sounds like a complete dick. Yeah, I know, I should tell him that to his face. I get it.
At the end of the day, he's still a dick.
