I seen videos on YouTube that a pellet gun can still cause some damage and saw where people shot in the head had to learn how to walk and talk all over again.
seriours question, so at 3 am when someone barrels thru your door/window are you gonna tell him to hold up for 20 seconds while you pump the gun 20 times then execute some sort of deadly well placed shot to the head?
Tell your wife to shut up, go buy the gun if you want one and be done with the conversation.

a pellet gun
Get a pistol and learn how to use it. Scared of a toddler finding it? Load the first round in the magazine or cylinder with a blank.

My brother and I shot each other with pellet guns for fun. Not in the head but still. You are stupid...

Mossberg 500a: Don't have to clean it often, 7 in the tube and one in the chamber makes 8 rounds of 2 3/4" 00 buck shot. Mine has a folding, recoil reducing stock for pistol grip or on-the-shoulder firing. Nothing better for home defense IMO.
Currently concealed behind my 5" thick headboard of my bed on 2 hooks that I installed. Can have it in my hands ready to go in a second or two from a prone normal sleeping position in the bed.
Go get one, find someone who isn't a dumbass to teach you how to operate it safely and clean it correctly.
I think my all in price on it was about $400

make sure you buy bullets also

Buy a pistol and hide it at the bottom of your wife's dildo box. Once your kid sees the first dildo they'll never want to look in there again.

Unless you feel threatened by your environment, I would not because of the domestic situation at home. If you do need one, get a 12 gauge shotgun with minimum legal barrel length.

AK 47 with red dot scope or don't get one

Yes, you should get a gun but you and your wife should take a couple of classes to familiarize yourselves with firearms and actually fire a couple. Education will take some of the scary-ness away.

The odds of needing a gun are astronomical. Driving/ riding in a car should be a more serious concern. If you feel having a gun is necessary, then you and your family should drive/ ride in a car with a full crash helmet and fire suit. That would be more likely to save your life than a gun. But putting on that suit and helmet doesn't help people's self esteem the way having a gun does.

First get the wifey use to a gun. Go to a range and shoot. Sit down and talk and explain why you are considering this as the man of the house. The infant/child can easily be kept away from a loaded firearm.
Then move to selecting type of firearm. Semi auto rifle as in an AR. Hand gun. or shot gun.
Remember depending on type of home you live in bullets can and will travel thru walls. IMO an AR is useful but can be dangerous if others are in the home not in your room. Pistols can be but no nearly as bad as you buy a particular ammo/caliber to prevent unwanted penetration thru walls. A shot gun IMO is best for home defense specially if you are not experienced with gun and controlling them (practice is key.) However keep in mind some 12Ga shotguns maybe rather large and uncomfortable for your wife to handle in a situation where you are not home or you cannot get to the gun.
just my .02 cents. I believe every home should have a loaded firearm inside.

You're exactly right... so long as they don't have a home invasion. Course then it's too late to get a gun. It's kinda like a seat belt in a car. You don't need them unless you crash but if you wait until you crash to put it on then it's too late.
BTW, How long do you think it will take for the cops to show up?

Have and not need, or need and not have
Which would you rather?

This is pretty silly. If, for whatever reason, I decided that I did not want to own a gun, I certainly wouldn't try to persuade other presumably law abiding citizens from keeping a gun in their houses. After all, the biggest thing keeping someone from breaking into my house at night to harm me or my family is the fact that there MIGHT be a gun in the house. The less houses that have a gun in them the less of a deterrent that becomes.

for the Wife, i'd consider a 20 gauge. lighter than a 12 gauge and good enough for home defense

I am totally pro-guns and have a number of them in my house at any given time...however:
-you obviously know nothing about guns
-your wife is scared shitless of guns
-you have a toddler who will certainly find and play with the gun at some point in the future
Unless a lot of what I just typed changes, I would not recommend a gun for you...just install a good alarm system in your house and use it and you all will be very secure.

Get a gun. Then keep it unloaded and locked away so it's safe from your kid. Then hope you never need it in a hurry Bc it's unloaded and locked away.
