If so, where is the best place to buy?
I'm going to a wedding in a few weeks and normally I'd wear slacks and a blue jacket but my wife said it's nice to be a big boy and get a suit.

If you don't wear them often, get a cheapie at Jos A Bank or Mens Wearhouse.

Brooks Brothers online...they have good sales
Banana Republic online also has decent suits on sale often

Local clothier/tailor. It will be more expensive than some cheap shite from MW or JAB, but it will be higher quality and the old baw who runs it will do a better job than the excon at MW.

Depends on your means, your build, and your presence.
You can buy a cheap department store suit and have it tailored for under 200 bucks to make it something special.
Some guys can wear a rental tux and look like a million bucks.
When in doubt, dress 20 years older than you are.

Yes, every man should own at least one suit that goes with every occasion and also a blazer or two that can mix and match.

Yes, and I would go further and that every man should own each of a navy, a gray (preferably, charcoal), and a lighter or khaki suit.
Tailoring and fit is just as important as the brand. Pay attention to that.
Suitsupply and Bonobos have really good suits that won't completely break your bank if you're looking for your first one. J Crew has some cool new products, as does Banana Republic. None of those will kill your wallet.
Edit to add: And if you're older than 30, you should own your own tux as well. Be a grown up.

Interesting. How does a man of little means, in his early 90's, dress?

Yes.
Go to Beijing and find a tailor named Jin. He's made most of my suits and they're great.
