How about we rephrase the question this way:
Say I own a home, and I want to sell it to a willing buyer who is a foreigner. But the government swoops in and says no.
Looks a little different in this light, don't it?

They kind of already do. Homestead exemptions. Problem is the increased cost is just passed on the the customer (renter)

Then increase that tax so much that nobody can afford to own it.

If corporations want to buy residential homes to use as rental properties, tax the sale at 100% of the sell price, then tax them every year quadruple the property tax rate.

Our Supreme Court has already ruled that corporations are people too.

American companies cannot even operate in China without the Chinese government having majority interest. There are few exceptions to this. (Tesla)

I think we should severely limit it because it can be an economic weapon.

The problem with that is it affects Joe Blow buying $100k college rental houses in Hammond, too

I’ve thought this for a long time. None citizens should be required to rent. Corporations and companies on the stock exchange also.

What do the corporations do with the housing? Are they renting it out? Flipping it for a profit?

I'm as libertarian as it gets, but we have bent over backwards to consider corporations as people for far too long. Businesses are not people, and businesses that suck at the teet of the state and federal governments are basically a branch of government at this point to me.

They should have to go through several hoops. It's not easy buying land in some countries, if at all.

I'm not against development as an investment vehicle, but I would like to discourage rental income.

The foreigner buys the house, not lives in it. Otherwise he's no longer a foreigner, and is an immigrant.
