We've criminalized addiction and sent a lot of people to prison that were really only harming themselves and could have been helped with other means.
The majority of people in jail for drug charges(real time not a few weeks) are drug dealers, not users. Most drug dealers aren’t addicts

It’s not getting any worse is it?

Who hasn't made a pipe bomb?
Still not nearly as cool as a potato gun though.

Alcohol is regulated and manufacturing, distribution and consumption is controlled.
Only for businesses. You can cook up for home consumption all you want.
And it's legal.
Alcohol is way overregulated which is why I hate the "tax and regulate" argument.

False and false

not getting any better either despite spending 1.5 trillion
Maybe reallocate that money to treatment and I bet that would start to decrease. And by treatment, I mean actual treatment of the problem, the issue with most treatment centers is that they only treat the symptom of the problem which is the drug use, they never actually treat the actual problem. Thats why so many people relapse.

1) Let me ask a question. Why do grown people want to legislate what other grown people do when it doesn’t affect them personally?
2). In light of these laws, and many many like them regarding personal liberty, how can we honestly say with a straight face that America is indeed the land of liberty?

but not cocaine, meth or heroin.
If coke were legal or you could get legal amphetamines like Adderall OTC, meth use would plummet.

I can't stand the people that argue for Louisiana to legalize weed as a revenue source. I want it legalized because I think I should be able to grow and consume a plant if I want to. I should be able to grow it in my backyard if I want. I haven't smoked pot in over a decade btw.

Was thinking about this earlier and from what ive read. And im not talking about just pot either, im talking about stuff like meth, cocaine, and other hard drugs.
Would it be worth it to make these legal considering how much money we spend enforcing laws to keep them illegal?
Are you fukin stupid?

The majority of inmates in prison are drug addicts.
quote:
In 1980 there were 40,900 people incarcerated for drug offenses; by 2013, this number increased to 489,000. Considering that the vast majority of drug arrests are for possession, the criminal justice system is left to address high levels of substance abuse and addiction. Approximately half of prison and jail inmates meet DSM-IV criteria for substance abuse or dependence, and significant percentages of state and federal prisoners committed the act they are incarcerated for while under the influence of drugs. Data from a national study in five major American cities shows that at the time of arrest, 63% to 83% of arrestees had drugs in their system, with marijuana and cocaine being the most common. Between 2000 and 2013, the percentage of arrestees with opiates in their system increased, with a couple of cities seeing significant increases in opiate presence, as well as methamphetamines. Substance abuse and addiction have other significant public health implications; CDC data estimates that 7.6% of new HIV diagnoses between 2008 and 2011 involved transmission via injection drug use, and sharing needles and other equipment used to inject drugs is the most common form of Hepatitis C transmission. Substance abuse may be compounded by co-occurring mental illness, and many begin to use substances to cope with mental illness or physical pain.

Because eventually it does effect everyone personally. Mental illness creates homeless people, drugs can exacerbate the number of homeless people, homeless people exist in public spaces.
Are you trying to say we shouldn't care what happens in public spaces?
Should we care if people are shooting up drugs on the sidewalk and leaving their needles behind?
We have to draw a line somewhere.
Legalizing more drugs....yes...all drugs? Not practical
Posted on 5/26/19 at 2:56 pm to yellowfin
The “stoner in prison” thing is mostly a myth. Most in jail with weed chargers also have gun and other drug charges

Strawman. Try again.
Unless you want to try and argue that pipe bombs can be used recreationally. I'd like to see that

I don’t think the OP is talking about legalizing cooking up drugs for home consumption

Maybe because we dont want to pay for your frick ups.
To me that is the biggest issue. If your drug use doesnt affect me go for it....but when it leads to other criminal acts or spending tax payer money for your problem....then it becomes our problem.
Posted on 5/26/19 at 2:58 pm to TigersHuskers
Anyone who thinks meth or heroin should be legal are fricking idiots.
Posted on 5/26/19 at 3:00 pm to TigersHuskers
It is idiotic that we put people in jail for ingesting a substance in the comfort of their own home.
