The Advocate article linked says police don't think it was a carjacking, and witnesses say it looked like the victim met the suspects who were sitting on a bench when he pulled up. One of the suspects got into the SUV, then gunshot was heard and the guy got out with a backpack and ran.

quote:

Witnesses said they saw two black men sitting on a bench near the Hooters parking lot on College Drive a few minutes after 7 p.m. Monday night. A black SUV, which was later identified as Reusch’s Jeep, pulled up and parked, they said.

One of the black men wearing a white T-shirt immediately walked up to the vehicle and got into the passenger seat and closed the door.

Witnesses said they heard a gunshot, and then the black man appeared to fall or trip out of the passenger side of the vehicle. The man climbed back into the vehicle, and then got out, this time carrying a backpack-like bag, witnesses said.

Logic and circumstances say that backpack was full of drugs or steroids, and this was a deal gone bad.

I often stop on Bawell just before hitting College and use that nice front yard toilet on the left.

I also noticed last night the hole in the fence is close by Ruby Tuesdays but all I see it referred to is Hooters parking lot.

Bawell hood rats do not play. It's like that Wendy's and that service road shield us from what really does go on over there. Trust me, I have seen it and it's not pretty. Luckily, that neighborhood does sort of get cut in half by College and Corporate.

This has drug deal all over it. I was telling someone this today. You don't carjack someone and run off without the car.

If a white guy was buying something from the valley it would stand out a lot less in that parking lot than a white guy driving through there in a brand new jeep

How about a white guy with a Mexican girlfriend selling something? You do know where most drugs come from right? And remember that the shooter got in the car and then left with a backpack. Sounds a hell of a lot like old boy brought something to the meet and got ripped and shot. Now I don't know him and don't want to cast aspersions on his name but what the witnesses saw doesn't look kosher for him. Hope I am wrong.

I wasn't trying to assume if he was buying or selling, just that it was probably one of the two.

If that guy drove down the side street in the valley in a brand new jeep, he'd stick out like a sore thumb.

The suspect's prints will be all over the vehicle, along with other DNA matter. And I'm going out on a limb that the suspect has been arrested before and has a criminal history.

I'm sure if it was a drug deal all they need to do is trace cellphone calls.

I would say the whole getting murdered thing might be worse for him.

I'm still shocked someone hasn't come in and bought up the properties in valley park and developed it.

Touché. I edited part of what I originally said. I intended to say this could be bad for the victim and his family to save face.
