19,000 homes signed up. So your number is off a little.

And this program did exactly what I expected it to. As soon as I heard a contractor was coming with the inspector, I told everyone what I knew it was.

Does that mean I can now say it's a shite program? Did I pass all your tests?

Read the OP.

There are always problems with government work, but permanent repairs were never even the goal of Shelter at Home.

So what you're saying is that it is the contractors that are scamming the program. Not that the program is a scam.
well, considering my inspector was working with the contractor to get him as much money as possible, I'd say the state, or at least it's employees, have some responsibility.

This isn't in a vacuum. 110,000 homes were damaged. That's 110,000 homeowners providing demand for repair work one way or another. There will be inflated prices, material shortages, and delays regardless of if you or the taxpayers foot the bill to repair your home.

The program doesn't provide permanent repairs. That won't make it a scam. Abuse and fraud will.

Not a soul is saying a fricken thing about permanent repairs. The "repairs" that they are making vs what they are CLAIMING is one issue. The other is that when the "repair" is not even close to being up to code for a TEMPORARY dwelling.

Keep tooting that horn for a severely flawed and broken program. Your tax dollars are hard at work.

The inspectors and contractors are not doing other work besides this. I asked them if they were the only company the state is using. They were out of New Orleans and not the only ones but he had all his crews doing this and so were the other companies contracted. I suppose he lied.

You are still missing the point. You tried to say this is to get people in their house quickly. It's not.

And again, nowhere have I said this was for permanent repairs. It's a scam because all it does it slowly give people sinks, mini fridge, outlets and cleaning. Maybe 3k work at most.

Instead of bitching and waiting for America to pay for your poor choices you could have protected yourself, ensured the safety of your family, and kept peace of mind rather than being left bitching.

Temporary repairs are exactly what they are stated to be, repairs in order to get the dwelling to a livable condition until you can permanently fix the house.

Just like the temporary shelters after Katrina, they were ment to be temporary, and not a permanent solution.

It also doesn't provide competent contractors or workers. It is a feel good program that is falling flat on its face.

Walk a mile in another man's shoes before you start spouting this drivel.

We are fully insured against such a disaster. It's been what 5 weeks now that we have been out of the house? We are STILL waiting for the final number from the insurance company before we can even begin. We are into our savings for everything we have bought so far to try and hurry this process along. You tell me, what else could I have done to ensure my family's safety, since your trolling arse seems to know so much. GTFO. The adults are talking. Get back under your bridge.

Where exactly did I reference you or your situation? You're not the one whining when they didn't take care of their own needs, or begging the American taxpayer to bail you out.

You seem to be doing exactly what any responsible person would be, using their savings and waiting for that money to be paid out due to your past payments in.

Sorry the timeframe isn't quick? Maybe you could... You know contact them about that rather than me.

So the contractor came, they told you 8k for the repairs to get your house to that level and you then did what?

You signed off on those documents allowing it and the government to pay that money, or you declined saying that's unreasonable and unnecessary. Thanks for your time.

The government is already giving hand outs in regards to this situation, instead though you state you should have been given more than this alternative program you seem to disagree with.

Quality workers get spread thin when you're trying to do quick repairs between 18-22 thousand homes.

If the work sucks and the home isn't livable, then don't sign off on the final inspection.

Just a money grab for shitty contractors.

That's what it sounds like. It also sounds like a complete waste of money and in the long run could cost the homeowner more money because a contractor will have to remove the temporary add in.

It might be a good option for some people who do not have resources to do any type of repairs, but overall it seems like there could be a better way to do this.

So what is your expertise on this subject speaking from Pittsburgh? Or just arguing for the sake of argument?

You really do not see an issue with the government spending 15k for 1k in work? You are ok with that?

Oh look someone from San Francisco now. Now we have a whole fricking circle jerk of idiots that have no fricking clue what really happened here or what is really going on here. But have an opinion about it.

Ell just take your government money and dont worry about the waste and fraud involved. Don't worry that they don't solve any problem for you. Just say thank ya sir.. That's the message they want you to heed.

BTW you believe the people who had insurance are not going through hell? They did it yet right way correct?

You think that if you had insurance for 250k and had 300k in losses that the flood insurance is paying these people out whole don't ya?

Instead people that had insurance are getting screwed and nickel and dimed on everything and paying out many thousands out of their own pockets because flood insurance isn't giving them remotely near what they have under their policy.

It's a real fricking nightmare around here so I politely ask if you are not from around here just shut the frick up.

The degree that this flood impacted myself, my family, or my friends is none of your business...neither is my expertise on construction or building renovations.

I get that some of you are emotional now, but this is nothing but a straw man. I don't think anyone in this entire thread said that.

Not at all what I said, and asked him what course of action he took with the money, as since he stated it was wasted. Did he actually accept and allow those wasteful repairs?

Interested to find out.
