Nobody was bitching about temporary repairs. It's all about the insane cost of extremely shitty temporary repairs.

Complaining about having to redo shite work isn't complaining that it's temporary. Not all the work is that. The sink and drywall for the outlets are the only two "temporary" items.

He's not bitching about the fact that the repairs are temporary ffs. He's talking about how it's a waste of fricking money and the fact that they are charging way over the realistic price of the half-assed repairs being done.

instead of waisting 400 million on "temporary" repairs, they could have took that money and handed out 20 grand to each applicant which would have gone WAY further imo.
tl;dr shelter at home is obviously a program to pad some pockets and will be a waste of 400million.

In many cases, the repairs being made can't even be called temporary. In our case, the work being done was so substandard as to be laughable. The two guys that were here, we're here for about 30 minutes. They slapped up a sink and tried to change outlets, that I had already changed, with switches. Then they left. I inspect said sink and see it leaking badly at the cold water line as well as at the gasket where the drain connects to the basin. They had damaged the valve by overtightening it and I wound up having to cut the water to the house off and replacing said valve. If we would have left with the "contractors", we would have come home to a newly flooded bathroom. I worry about the many folks out there who have no clue about plumbing or if something is safe or not.

I'd expect Shelter at Home to audit the hell out of the contractors to make sure they don't actually pay out $8000 for cleaning.
And if the work is that bad then call the contractor and make them fix it. If they don't respond, then call Shelter at Home.

He mentions those things because they aren't worth the money the contractors get. His theme is scam/waste. And those are two relevant points. For the money this costs, contractor could easily put up a full 8x4 Sheetrock that never has to be replaced ($10) and a basic vanity with built in sink ($250) that, again, could remain at the owners' discretion. But instead, they cut up the 8x4 into 8 pieces, buy a 2x4, some OSB, and a drop in sink and call it a day. It's fricking retarded.

This was done after Katrina with the Road Home program. The result was that most of the money was used for anything but repairs (new cars, gambling, etc). So, as it turns out, the homeowners are about as trustworthy as these greedy contractors.

OK... 1 more time. The title of the thread indicates that he's questioning if the program is a scam. He then goes on to discuss how he knows the repairs are TEMPORARY and talks about the ridiculous pricing of these TEMPORARY repairs. Then he stated that instead of making shitty, overpriced TEMPORARY repairs the money would be better suited by making permanent repairs.

After all the bitching and complaining, all the whining about how this is only padding contractors pockets. After complaining about how you won't be reimbursed for the work you had already done, you are going to allow them to "clean" as you put it and charge the government 8k for that service.
So what exactly is the point if you are allowing them to do that you are enabling it? Sad you didn't get more hand outs than you already are or?
