Shouldn't it be .99 cents a gallon at this point. It should have never gone up so high to begin with.

Jim, it is what it is. I'm in pumps and pump equipment so I'm not 100% vested in ONG but it is definitely the difference between growth/ no growth, stable year/ great year.
What's laughable are all the idiots who are so myopic that, while living in LA, Houston, or even North America, are cheering to save $50/ month at the pump while truly believing that this downturn won't effect them. I guess if none of your net worth is linked to the value of your properties' or linked to overall demand for other services then that could be true, I guess. Bottom line, if the backbone of the economy near your place of residence hurts or disappears, damn near every single person around it will hurt as a result. How can you be insulated by the downfall and jump for joy about $50/ month less in fuel when even Wall Street reacts drastically to such news? Answer? You can't, and you're an idiot if you think otherwise...

I agree that cheering this while living in LA, TX, or the like is pretty short-sighted. But what did you mean by this?

Well it's time for them to stop buying a new 4x4 every other year, sell the bass boat and both the jet skis, cancel the expanded dish, quit eating out every night and going to the bar.

I don't need to go very far to find "experts," that say the market has lost big chunks the last few days almost solely because the price of Oil tanked. What else do I need to cite?
Are any of you old enough to remember what happened to South LA in the 80's? Do you think doctors, dentists, realtors, restaurant owners, et al weren't affected? Why is this line of thinking so hard to grasp? I'm far from an alarmist but it's clear it could be raining for months and Noah could offer many of you a ride but you'd call him a quack waist deep in water...

The hands who are 80k dollar millionaires aren't the only ones affected. The engineers and managers who are overhead costs are getting cut too. White collar guys are expensive and will be affected accordingly.
No matter how you cut it, louisiana's economy is tied heavily to O&G and when O&G is suffering, we are all going to suffer.
Hate to admit it, but Obama was definitely correct about cheap gas being a sign of a weak economy.

We just signed 3 new contracts here and I'm currently working on a tender which is due September 8th. So we're fortunate to still be picking up work in this region.
We were very proactive and aggressive when prices started to drop and it's paid off for us. We cut costs, improved efficiency, and proposed some super aggressive well designs to tap into known reservoirs producing 6,000 - 10,000 bbl/day that required some very good engineering. FOP is being drug down a bit by other districts in the region due to regional allocations but our district is going full steam ahead.

Obama? Economists have looked at sagging oil prices as being a leading indicator of a recession for decades. Obama didn't break any new ground.

America has lost its way. We used to celebrate success, now we root for others to fail. This is really sad.
The guys officed at One Shell Square are mostly production engineers and production support people. They are professionals. They pay a lot of taxes and do great things in their communities. I know several of them. Being happy that they are losing their job is pathetic.

Well said. We aren't all F250 truck nuts trash. This downturn is hitting the industry all the way to the foundations. When you start laying off the people who design and engineer major projects it's not good. OPEC knows exactly what they're doing. They know the industry is at a turning point where the knowledge base is at retirement age and we do not have enough people to replace them. This downturn is bad but when it turns the corner it has the potential to be even worse.

Appreciate it, it was very stressing just happy to be working and pretty secure right now. I didn't realize you were on with an operator, glad yall are staying busy hope it stays that way for yall. Still want to get to a drilling or completions position but it looks like I will be holding tight for the time being.

Not big oil money but a comfortable stable living with good benefits.

This is OPEC's grand strategy to permanently cripple American domestic production. And IMHO, it's the current administration's biggest failure in not perceiving and countering it.
Hoping the next president has an agenda for increasing and protecting domestic oil and gas production.
