And that dude lives in baton rouge. Probably a much better chance of getting shot in BR than Cancun.

Cancun muder rate: 33/100,000
Baton Rouge Murder Rate: 27.6/100,000

Almost the same odds

Oh BTW, Nola's is 792/100,000

You mean in general?

If so, someone needs to step away from the internet and Fox news for a few days.

So the point still stands. Scoffing at Cancun, and more specifically the zona hotelera from baton rouge is comical.

wind is pushing the boat

Common misunderstanding - modern sails are built for the wind to pull the boat. They operate like the wing of a plane but on a vertical axis.

Also, Houston to Cancun walking would take 590 hours (24.5 days) of walking per google maps. That’s not including breaks for rest, eating, etc.

Sailing may not be safe either, without a crew of guys with ARs.

A guy from work did a regatta race from MD to some island in the caribean. shite isnt that easy. We would talk weekly about it, and the prep was crazy. Once he did it was cool to hear.

Honestly though I would do it horseback. I would love to travel horseback across the country.

My Dad used to race every year to Cozumel for a period of 4-5 years around 1985-1990. His crew even won one year. I was very proud of him.

Cancun is safer than most major US cities.

Hmmm....

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6538571/Cancun-sees-record-540-murders-2018.html

540 murders in 2018, 227 in 2017. Cancun has a higher murder rate than any US city and is one of the deadliest cities in the world (#13)

For those with open-water experience, what is the smallest vessel you would feel comfortable making the Houston-Cancun crossing in?

If walking, can you hitch-hike along the way, or does it have to be 100% on foot?

Was this a real question?

Near suicide sailing across the open Gulf in that thing.

Sailing in some thing more substantial, like around 30' or greater is routinely done, however.

That's not enough sailboat for all but most experienced sailors and even then you better not hit a storm.

I've gone fishing down to gulf from l.c. under power in a small craft. The waves can knock you around pretty hard even on a rather calm day.

I'd walk.

Pretty awful either way.
