I think a lot of people say lisp when they really mean the lilt that gay guys tend to have.
The lisp is fake most of the time, I think. I don't hear many gay guys with the lisp and I live in Atlanta (where they abound). I do, however, hear the tone/lilt most of the time. It's pretty rare that I meet a gay dude who doesn't have that voice to one degree or another.

Honestly, I think AC360 is probably the only decent news show on TV, but he always has to relieve the pressure with his often queer "Ridicu-list".

Yeah gay guys don't bother me unless they're just over the top. All the cultural trappings of the gay community annoy me more so than actual gay people. For example, whining gay guys who are upset that Atlanta isn't permanently keeping rainbow crosswalks.

There is an interesting documentary on Netflix entitled "Do I Sound Gay?" He goes to see a speech therapist because although he's gay, he doesn't want to sound so flaming. It's an interesting watch.

I don't get it either. It's really strange that a number gay guys develop this gay voice. In fact I listened to Npr one morning and there was a gay man on there who was trying to figure out the same thing. He said the "gay voice" phenomenon bothered him and didn't really know why they talk like that.

I know some gay dudes that you would never know were gay, unless they told you.
At the same time I know some straight dudes that you would think were gay because of their voice.
I have no idea where the accent comes from for straight guys that sound more feminine, I guess the guys with it may have more estrogen? Just a guess because I don't know. A lot of gay guys with it are probably faking it, though. (probably not all since some straight guys have it too)

I knew guys who went to LSU for one semester and came back to Shreveport talking like they were from Welsh. And I know girls who went to boarding school in the North East and came back talking like they were from Connecticut. The brain is a complicated thing.

My gay neighbors don't have the lilt. They speak like normal men. But they're older - in their 50s - so maybe the lilt is a younger generation thing.

Sat directly behind him on a flight out of BR after Katrina and he talks normally. You can tell he's gay by his general demeanor and mannerisms, but he doesn't have a fairy voice.
I have several gay friends and none of them talk like this individually or at work, but when they get all gayed up in a pack for a drunk brunch, they can start talking like that.
No lisps though, more like a "female, blonde, cali, airhead, valley girl" twang. I think its hilarious.

I have a best friend people immediately think is gay from his voice, he is not gay though. He's the kind of guy who'd never hide being gay if he was. Free-spirit guy.
