Serious question. Not judging. Gay Lisp?

So I'm wondering is the gay lisp speech similar to a Texas twang? Is it learned? Intentional? Subconscious? I can't think of a reason why someone would want to talk a certain way in order to identify themselves as gay, but maybe it's a thing to gay people? I just don't see the correlation between who you are attracted to and how you speak enough to where it would make that person give effort to speaking that way. Again, not judging, just interested. Anyone have knowledge about this?

Some people honestly have a lisp, but I guessing you are not talking about these people.
The "gay lisp" is a learned speech pattern. I don't know why some men feel the needs to do it. It could be a social norm for their community or their place in the community. Still, I do not understand the need for it. For me, it seems about the same as bullish women trying to lower the register of their voice.

Even more fascinating to me is the effeminate Alabama southern accent that is right on the line to where you wonder about the person's sexuality. I can't tell if you're a repressed gay dude or just a redneck who probably hates gay people.
It doesn't help that these people frequently use the term "daddy" (or diddy in local parlance) in lieu of dad, father, etc.

In high school a friend of mine had a 2 year old little brother that was as gay as Richard Simmons. He began speaking with that "lisp." Sixteen years later and he's acting in musicals and happily a gay man. So I don't think it's as intentional as some believe.

Good one, although he's from Georgia as far as I know. I'm sure that accent is throughout the south, I just hear it more in Alabama.

There's a some "reality" show on tv (I forget what channel or what the show is called) where they follow around some rich family from the south and the dad acts and sounds queer as a football bat.
