I have several gay friends and none of them talk like this individually or at work, but when they get all gayed up in a pack for a drunk brunch, they can start talking like that.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the idea of "tongue thrust"
This is the swallow pattern we are all born with, a natural oral posture resulting from the use of the suck/swallow reflex: breastfeeding.
I know kids that stay on the bottle, thumbsucking, or pacifiers beyond the time they start ingesting solid food can end up with a tongue thrust, causing a lisping speech pattern. Some are severe enough to cause the incisors to grow outward.
Makes sense gay men would have a lisp while lesbians wouldn't.
Seriously, its a speech pattern they learn and adopt consciously, IMO.

What's the difference between a regular lisp and a gay lisp?

Damn, not disagreeing, but how do you know all that?

It's copied from other gay people as a way of identifying each other

There's a some "reality" show on tv (I forget what channel or what the show is called) where they follow around some rich family from the south and the dad acts and sounds queer as a football bat.

Someone at work is like that and I can't stand it. It's like they talk at you, not too you.
Not all of them. Just the ones that are too ashamed to be themselves.
