I don't see how offering a class is treating anyone specially. I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem with you signing up if you find it unfair.

mental abnormality for sure...but illness implies something that is causing distress and lily something the person suffering from the illness wishes to change. I don't think this falls into that category for the most part.

As far as businesses doing stuff like this, I honestly don't think they are catering to anyone as much as giving their company what they know will be good social media publicity... just good business really.

Offering classes specific to <1% of Americans isn't special treatment?

There are those who have a knee jerk "OMG gross they'll turn my kids gay!" reaction.

There are those who have a knee jerk "OMG you're so regressive there is nothing weird about this these women are beautiful!!!" reaction.

This isn't that. It's not about unfairness to a minority group. Sephora can give away makeup for free to black women for all I care. It's about the absurdity of a large national corporation providing specialized classes to help a handful of men put on makeup like they're women while simultaneously preaching to us about gender malleability.

If anything, it's about societal dishonesty.

you really don't see the business genius of this? Yea, the class may be free, but the make-up sure isn't. I've listened to wife enough to know that place is the "expensive shite". So bring in a bunch of trannys desperate to be seen as feminine, have you employees spend an hour making them feel special and have them feel great about buying an obscene amount of high end product.

How did you explain to her the reason why she needs to wear makeup?

I don't have the background to opine with particular intelligence about the difference. That said, I would note that transgendered people, from everything I've seen, suffer from a ton of health-impacting issues, including heightened rates of severe depression and suicide.

Could be for Sephora. I question whether this is going to make them any money or really create any goodwill.

I think about these things in three ways. The first is where a controversial decision is expected to have a monetary benefit (like you're suspecting here). A true "business" decision. The second is where the company is taking a stance based on an ethical or corporate purpose basis, which may or may not provide a monetary benefit (depending on who the core customer is). Examples may be Chick-fil-a or Patagonia. They're willing to take the hit because selling product is in some ways ancillary to bigger goals.

The third is the potentially irrational business decision resulting from a mixture of progressive corporate sanctimony and fear of negative consequences. It's not really part of the corporate ethos enough that the company is resolved to take a loss over it, but it's not certain to be financially beneficial either. It's sort of corporate paralysis about what to do leading to some ridiculous actions and outcomes. Dicks Sporting Goods may be in the midst of this right now.

Whether this is good business or not, we'll see. But some similar moves have turned out questionably. I still don't know how to categorize Target.

Why the name calling? I understand what a “trans” person is but have never heard of a “non binary” person. Is it another letter to add to the lgbtqrs group thats needs to be included more?

Jury is out IMO. I think to make it truly beneficial it'll need to go far beyond the transgender folks to where it inspires progressive people to shop at Sephora more. And I'm not sure there are enough "allies" to that community that are Sephora targets to make it work.

I just don't think the targeted minority community is large enough to make it particularly worthwhile without that. And, I think there is probably going to be some backlash, and I certainly don't think the transgender community alone can cover the loss, even if the loss is small.

In other words, it'll need to be trans sales (small) + non-trans sale increase (potentially significant) covering and exceeding the non-trans decreases.

If you are married, you probably figured out that Sephora has a very loyal audience. Their female audience likely won’t be deterred just because the store offers makeup classes to trannies that were probably already regular customers anyways.

"Shitlord" is an insult lobbed at people like you by the far left, which has since become a joke used when people question transgenderism and the like (so I'm just messing with you).

I am, but I'm married to precisely the type of person who might go "I'm sick of this crap, I'll shop somewhere else." That may skew my perception.

I'm not saying she's the norm for a Sephora customer, but there are more conservative girls who buy high end fragrance and make up than may be appreciated by most.

It’s about time. Have you seen the makeup some of these people put on? Someone needs to give them lessons.

I married one who wears little makeup and buys it a target.

I DGAF if a private company is going to play the part just to get more sales. It’s brilliant marketing really.
