I listed a kitchen table and four chairs for sale for $100. It was solid wood, a few scratches, but it was solid furniture. A oriental guy came to look at it and offered me $5 for it. I thought at first I misunderstood him and asked him to say again, and yes, he offered $5. I told him before I would sell it for $5, I would break it up and and use the wood in my fireplace.

Since I am old and somewhat feeble, rather that advertising stuff. I just put whatever I want to get rid of out on the curb. It just disappears like magic.

White people are a global minority so you should change your title

I sold a truck once on FB marketplace. A guy was supposed to come look a the vehicle at 5 pm. However, the guy who came at 3 pm offered me a good price on the truck so I sold it to him. I called the 5 o'clock guy to tell him the truck had been sold; he immediately lost his sh!t, cussed me out, then threatened me. I haven't sold anything on that platform since and will gladly take the "L" from trading in a vehicle instead of dealing with nutjobs and psychos. We won't get into the times my wife (no pics) has tried to sell stuff via Facebook. Never again...

I always meet in public area. Also check to see what the seller’s rating is.

I bought a second beater car to drive around town on fb marketplace. It was a great deal and I’ve had it for over a year with no issues, it’s a 2009 Toyota so those things last forever

I think I’ve sold everything I ever posted on marketplace in under a week. You gotta ignore the 3000 “is this still available messages?” And the lowballs. If they’re serious, they’ll circle back with an actual message.

Tractors, trucks, boats, furniture, trailers, lawnmowers, etc. I think it’s great.

I buy/sell a ton of crap on Marketplace, and always see people complaining about the auto-prompted "Is this available?" message, and how they ignore them. I always take the 2 seconds to simply reply "yes", and probably 80% of the time a buyer will continue with actual questions on the item. Looking back through my messages, 4 of the last 6 things I've sold started with a "Is this available?" message, it isn't that difficult to simply reply "yes" and see where it goes.

the one place i absolutely stereotype and discriminate…for anyone I consider selling to, I do a quick glance at their profile and don’t deal without anyone who doesn’t have a normal looking profile

had two horrible experiences with certain race that checked every stereotype available so never again

star rating helps now too

Hot take, you shouldn’t be selling anything anything higher than 30-40% retail. Why would I buy something used from Jose when I can buy it new for 10% more, with a return policy, and a warranty? ETA; I’ll take high end fishing reels as an example. The amount of reels for sale for $500-550 that retail for $600 is absurd. “Save 20% plus the cost of line”. Not worth it. I’ll buy it from you tomorrow for $350 (not kidding). You gotta make the risk and time worth it. Used shite ain’t worth anything close to brand new retail

Exactly. Every time I look at FB marketplace, it’s full of used items that are barely cheaper than if I bought it new and waited for a quarterly sale. If it’s brand new in box, that might justify only 10-15% off retail. Anything used is taking a hit way bigger than that for me to care.

I have a strict "no minority" sales policy when I do that. I know I cut out a lot of people, but they're a pain in the arse to deal with. I'm also less likely to be robbed at the meet up.

So......Not wanting to take a chance on being robbed at gunpoint- or dealing with the complications forced upon you following a self defense situation- was considered racist by this a$$ clown?

i tried giving away a riding lawnmower...for free. People were asking if i would deliver it, pull it off the road and save it for them, asking all sorts of picky questions about it. It served the purpose and was quickly claimed by an asian mother and daughter that just happened to be driving by. they sat on the lawnmower until dad got there with the trailer.

Sold a tow dolly recently. Wish I would have had 10 more to sell. From listing to cash in hand was about 3 hours.
