The last half of July into early August was very ideal for fungus growth around here in the Panhandle. I found an incredible diversity of mushrooms, including swaths of delectable chantarelles. Anyone else find anything neat? Feel free to share your own pics.

I try to find morels and chanterelles from time to time but I'm not as knowledgable about MT ecology and identification as I should be. I'll start taking pics and trying a little a harder.

I was damned near 100% certain there was going to be a penis slipped somewhere in the OP.

delectable chantarelles

I had a dear friend. Older woman. She passed last year but one of my favorite memories of her was we had gone foraging for mushrooms and found a bunch of lovely golden chanterelles.

We brought them back to her house and cooked them down with butter and cream and a lovely Chardonnay and some cracked black pepper, then ate them on some multi grain toast from Trader Joe's. We just drank wine and snacked and talked and had a memorable time.

I miss my friend.

Some penis envy there bruh?

For you who don’t know, penis envy is a strain of psychedelic mushrooms.

Yeahh, the chantarelles the only ones I feel comfortable enough positively IDing and consuming. I am 99% positive I can positively ID chicken of the woods, lion's mane, and penny buns too, but I still haven't harvested and eaten any.

I got into looking at/trying to ID lichen a while back. There are some cool/weird ones out there.

Just cell phone pics.

They have oddball names, too, like grey legs, bristly beard, witch's butter, and frosty saucer.

Some of them also fluoresce. Put them under a black light and they glow.
