I should edit that part of the OP out, it was tongue in cheek and I am and will always be a diehard Badger fan.

But that doesn't mean I am not gonna go to games of the teams in my new state and effing love it and even root for their success. It just means more to us.

ETA: I joined the Charleston Badgers group a few weeks ago in anticipation. Apparently they meet at Charleston Beer Works for game watches

Chicago - cool city (minus shootings, of cours)

Charleston - cool city

Sounds like you are doing it right. Good luck!

Moved from BR to Charleston last year. Huge upgrade. Better quality of life and lower cost of living.

I moved from Charleston to BR over 3 years ago

While CHS is certainly one of the best places to be and I miss it, the cost of living is certainly not lower.
Charleston is fairly pricey for a city of its size especially when you consider home prices.

Who knows I might retire there

Hey baw, I was just in Charleston last week for my holiday vacation, first time there. We only spent a day since we had hotel reservations at Savannah and made the 2 hour drive.

It is a very charming town, loved the architecture and setting. Coming from a large city and living in S. FL for over 30 years, the change from a big suburban city to a smaller town must be quite shocking. Reason being while being there, I often asked myself, wtf is there to do here after an extended period of time?

Being in both cities, CHI to CHR is a big difference.
Wishing you good things to come.

SCLibertarian, can we party in your railroad car?

Anytime my friend. I'm 90 miles from Charleston. Go to TW Graham's in McClellanville for some good seafood.

Welcome to Chucktown! I’d take Charleston’s heat/humidity any day over Baton Rouge and New Orleans. You have multiple beaches you can escape to as well.

DO NOT move to Elan. It looks nice. I live nearby and it has a ton of rich CofC kids housed there with their parent’s money. Go with the Caroline out of your two choices. There is a great Chicago sports bar here called Mac’s place that everyone loves. I’ve personally never been.

Charleston is a cleaner and nicer New Orleans. New Orleans has slightly better food and much better of a music scene, but I’d take Charleston on everything else.

Ton of different vibes around town. Folly Beach and James Island is more the locals laid back/surfer type culture while Mt. Pleasant is new money and really nice/pretentious to a degree. Sullivan’s and IOP are old money and real nice beaches. I’ve lived here for about two years now and I’m always finding new bars/restaurants to check out. If you’re cool with a small-mid sized town, I don’t think Charleston can be beat. It’s an incredible place.

Congrats on the move. I still expect you to go as late in the FBD threads as you do now. No excuses for Eastern time zone.

We got out of Southport/Lakeview in 2017… best decision we ever made. Tom Tunney and the rest of his ilk at City Hall will eventually have to reap what they sow.

Good luck in Charleston.

Ugh!

I've been asking for years. I haven't lived in Houston since 2012.

Unfair, Chicken, unfair.

Also if you ever come near Florence, let me know and I’ll buy you a brisket sandwich from Buc-ee’s

Ok, this is super helpful. That was my one concern. Don't get me wrong, we love to party, but dealing with noise at 2 a.m. on a Tuesday night is not appealing.

If it's over by the market then I've walked by it before. Good to know for my Cubs and Blackhawks fandom. The Bears can EAD.

You'll find that eastern time sort of sucks for watching sports... but if your remote hours don't change you probably won't notice.

The GF usually goes to bed kinda early because she gets up early, so this may actually enable more sports viewing for me. Win/win.

Moving to Charleston from New Orleans in a few months. Good to hear there’s some OT baws out there.

I would suggest staying a Badger before ever becoming a Sheephumping Tater

CoC for basketball and baseball if you need some afforadable sports

Last trip I enjoyed was in the 90's and they were gung ho about preservation and tourism. Last 10 years remind me of Miami in the 60's and 70's before all the high rises and traffic snarls. If you live in the core (and that has gotten really pricy) and can walk, good for you. If you have to live on the other side of the bridge good luck moving at snails pace at certain times of the day.

Yep that’s the spot. And Charleston is a party town for sure much like NOLA is, just on a smaller scale. Anyone between the ages of 25-50 are all basically thrown in together at any restaurant/bar you see around town. Shem Creek is a lot of fun as well. Overall it’s just a really laid back town with people who like to eat and drink and get out on the water. Y’all are gonna love it.
