Dude got on here so happy and he paid $52k and some change. Yeesh.

The price of most vehicles now is absurd.

Huh? There is a bit more to it then just how much you put away
Like, how much debt you have, how much you want to live off of etc

Gone are the days of a 17k Ranger with manual windows and no bells and whistles - consumers don't want it.
My dad got a Silverado for 19,990, literally zero frills though.

That would have gotten her close to a divorce in my mind. Zero way you do something like that on the fly without the other partner being involved. I don't care how preggo you are, that's absurd.

I bought a 2017 XLT screw last year for about 28k. It had 5k on it and was the sales manager's take home vehicle for 6 months. They sold it as a used vehicle due to the mileage.

This is the problem. And it isn't just with vehicles. House prices is the one that gets me. I understand high prices in really nice areas, but I am talking about cookie cutter homes in newly developed neighborhoods in which the contractors build them as cheap as possible, barely meeting code and people paying $275k-$300k for it..
It isn't my business at all, but there are people, who I see getting new vehicles (the latest and greatest) every 4 or 5 years who have jobs that pay average salaries. Anyway, I guess debt is the American way.

For the record. He is saying if you put away 18.5k for 30 years at 6% return annualized, for a 1.5M lump sum. That’s with no employer match. Consider a 4% withdrawal rate, $60,000 for 30 years income outside social security.
I conclude tgrbait08 is an idiot.

I’m starting to believe that. Just to pay the medical bills you will have to.

I don’t think that’s trashy. That’s just theft.

Just look at the debt statistics. I felt terrible when I had my credit card issues in my 20's thinking ~2k was a ton of money to have debt on but I know multiple people 20k plus in credit card debt.
It's insane.

Most people can't retire early due to health insurance. My dad was lucky. He retired at 56 but his company allowed people with 25+ years to stay on their group health until 65. Not many have that option.

I realize that but that’s not what the post that I was responding to said.
FTR, I don’t have 401k, my wife does and she contributes 15% with a 15% employer match. She’s doing quite well.
I contrinute to SEP, Roth’s and IRA’s that are doing just fine.
I may be an idiot but I’m not dumb
