$18,500.00 is the maximum allowed 401K contribution for 2018, for 2017 it was only $18,000.If this poster is contributing that amount he is doing better than 99% of working Americans.

I’m getting sick of shopping around for 45k+ MSRPs for a 2018 truck or SUV. You end up financing 50+ when it’s all said and done. Car companies are getting ridiculous and gouging the hell out of the consumers who are dumb enough to pay it. Thinking about just paying cash for a used 4Runner and rolling with it until the wheels fall off. Screw a $650 payment for 7 years. End semi-rant. Yea I’m trashy.

Part of the pricing is caused by tons of useless technology that they keep adding to vehicles. I suspect some will soon come with ice makers.

There will be a market correction soon on trucks and suvs. There is very little material and production costs difference between a $60,000 pickup truck and a $30,000 sedan. This is all market demand pricing structure and I'm seeing more and more of the market reject the price tag on trucks and SUVs

Every product in the world is priced based on market demand, there is no other economic force that exists to determine selling price other than supply and demand. Assuming the product is selling at a profit the cost of production is irrelevant and only determines operating margin.

Unfortunately the days of the S-10. Ranger, Toyota single cab, Mazda has a truck for just $5795 or Nissan/ Datsun single cab trucks are gone.

The dealer would lose money selling them and mfg would lose money making them.
All the vehicle mfg requirements such as emissions, air bags, computers, backup cameras will probably be required soon, and other things drive up the cost.

Blaming the unions? Compare the prices of a final destination assembly point American product to a Mexico finally assembly point. Your logic is stupid.

Doesn’t matter if there is a union or not. It will always be the union’s fault.

UAW's days are done. 20 years ago, a plant worker at a GM operation or affiliate would start around $20/hr. Now they start at $16/hr with significantly less benefits. I don't think labor costs are the major driver of vehicle pricing, but I'm willing to be wrong.
Pension plans bro.

Average over $3k of each vehicle just to pay the pension plans of former employees.

What if I'm putting $100k a month somewhere else but not putting it where you say I need to? Stop being the resident douche bag with the "can't afford it" comments. You're not impressing anyone.

I agree. No one ever gives unions any credit. If there were not any unions, non union construction workers would be making little more than minimum wage. It is cool to hate on unions, but if they are eliminated, wages will drop for everyone that works with their hands or backs.
