don't frick with any baby alligators because the mother alligator will kill you.

This reminds me of a story from my younger days back when I was in dental school. Me and a friend went down to a cypress swamp area around Golden Meadow one night to catch some baby gators. The eyes light up red when a spotlight hits them. We were walking a levee and when our spotlight hit a small pond, it lit up like a Christmas tree - full of baby gators. We had a scoop net, so our strategy was to turn the light off, one of us would walk out into the middle of the little pond, stand there in the dark for a few minutes while things calmed down, then the other one of us would turn on our spotlight and the little gators would just be floating on top of the water and we'd scoop one up. Then we'd switch up and the other would go in the pond with the net, let the scattered babies calm down and resurface again, then hit the light and scoop. We did this for a little while and had caught 4 baby gators. Then it dawned on me and I was like, "Hey - you think the momma gator might be around here?" We wised up and got the frick out of there.

ETA: Last year I ran across a gator nest while catching snakes in Pearl River. Actually discovered it on my way back up the trail - didn’t even see it when I apparently first walked right past it. Luckily momma wasn’t guarding it.

I was in the Tetons back in the 80's when I was a teenager. The group leader warned us about grizzlies. Didn't see any but we came across a moose. I was in awe never seeing one before. Somebody said run and we hauled arse to a boulder. Damn thing was huge and pissed. Then got hyperthermia kayaking down the snake river when a storm came out of nowhere. But I had a great time. One of the most beautiful places on earth.

Was fishing in the Boulder river and locked in a place where I knew there were some trout. The river was pretty small there, and shallow. There was an island and I was right below the island. My friend was about 50 yards downstream. I hear him yelling, but I can't make out what he is saying. I notice that he is pointing at something and turn around. There was a huge bull moose munching grass and watching me, maybe 10 yards away.

I wasn't really scared, and it was an awesome sight. Those suckers are big. I slowly retreated downstream. He watched me for a while, then turned, crossed the river and disappeared into the woods.

Someone else has been watching these woods are haunted too.

Wait until after turkey season bro.

I think I can fill a few episodes, but still hunt alone. Lots of weird shite, but no bigfoot stories.

I was walking in the woods outside a cow pasture in Mississippi and ate a purple top mushroom. 30 minute later all sorts of good and evils spirits appeared in the woods … then God himself desended. After a few hours they went away

The wolves I ran into didn’t even care I was there. I looked into it and it’s rare, only 2 instances I could find. One was a mistaken identity. Woman jogging in AK in a snowfall was mistaken for prey. The other seemed rabid but unconfirmed. There’s no such thing as a big bad wolf.

Never been *really* scared, but hearing hogs grunting nearby in the dark will challenge your confidence.

Was walking down a dried up river in St. Francisville...woods on both sides. Saw a bunch of tracks in the sand. Some maybe deer, some who knows. Then heard what sounded like a hog in the woods. Not a good feeling! Felt like a soldier about to get ambushed.

Was walking the pasture fence one spring day, making sure it was ok before I moved cattle into that pasture. Fence was the property line, a 30 foot wide swath bulldozed through the woods. Out of the blue, a voice says “Good Morning!” My fricking heart about jumped out of my chest. “Over here” the voice said and a hand waved up out of the brush about 15 feet ahead of me. Was a turkey hunter. He was hidden good, if he would’ve kept quiet, I’m 99% sure I would’ve walked right past him, oblivious.

My heart was still pounding an hour later.

Was walking in pitch black woods and couldn’t see a damn thing. I told my friend to turn his head lamp on and when he did I was about 3-4” from stepping into one of those big-arse banana spider webs with the zig zags. That big arse spider was directly in front of my face. Had I taken one more step I would’ve run smack into it.

Someone posted a story here a few years back (I think it was on here, like 99% sure) and I've looked for it but can't find it again, kind of like the guy's story

If anybody knows WTF I'm talking about, link it for me. But basically the guy said he was walking through some woods that he was extremely familiar with, like had spent years and years in these woods, I think it was family owned land and I want to say the guy was somewhere in north Louisiana. He says he stumbled upon a cemetery that he had never in his life seen before in an area that he had been through hundreds of times in his life, and went back and told everyone what he had found, but when he came back the next day he couldn't find it and it freaked him out/perplexed him.

If anybody knows what I'm talking about, I'd love to read it again.

my wife and i had just purchased about 50 acres in St Tamm to build our 'final' house on. i was by myself and decided to walk the land a little to settle on a site to build said house. well, about 20 mins in i found myself in thicket so thick i couldnt pass. about 20 more mins of trying to go around thicket i lost my bearing. it's a square platted property with a highway on one side, tchefuncte river in the back, so all i had to do was walk in a straight line to hit a marker i recognized. the feeling you get when youre straight up lost is not a good one. i didnt panic and eventually after a couple hours found my way out but not a good feeling.

another one...i am walking around our property down by the tchefuncte river and have my little girl with me. off to our left is about a 300' by 300' swim hole that is boggy and constantly hold river water and heavily treed. i hear my daughter say, Dad, what's that? i look over where she is gazing and a handful of coyotes were poking there head up above a berm. she'a half way between me and coyotes and my side by side with my AR is equal distance. you would be shocked at how quickly your mind can process life altering decisions and scenarios. we're talking nano seconds.

of course, coyotes are scared shitless of us and they all turned and ran, but you never know. in that split second of life, i was scared.
