I just drove down Canal to 181, down perdido beach blvd/e beach blvd in GS, and the only waterway that was flooded onto the streets was cotton bayou on 181.
Mother Nature is giving this area a reprieve for the time being.

Because TWC is nothing but in panic mode most of the time...... they WANT huge storms... keeps viewers watching.
I laugh when they are on the coast and the water starts to get a little choppy.
They stand out there and say” We are already starting to see effects of the storm”.
Already? You have been waiting there for three days. Shouldn’t they say “finally”.

How id the water down your way?

Is there little chance of any additional intensification?
Limited. It's slow motion is a big limiting factor, since it's churning up cooler water and pulling heat out. So it's energy source is limited. As the thing that will eventually get it moving faster and more NE comes in, it's going to start putting more shear on it. It's got room to increase like 5 mph, but honestly I think the 85 mph is probably too high and those winds are limited to a small area just NE of the center.
It's the long extent of TS winds plus rain that will be the wind issue. It's not going to cause Lake Charles damage to structures but it'll pull up and snap a lot of trees. Especially since Mobile hasn't had much in the way of a real storm since Katrina.
The rain is the biggest concern. Rivers that drain into Mobile Bay and the Gulf will back up with surge slowly stacking up over the next day and then a foot of rain is going to be draining at a rising outlet. So freshwater flooding could be as bad as Mobile, Baldwin, and the NW Panhandle have seen in a long time.
This fricker is still a good 24 plus hours from landfall.

That's awesome .. my brother works there and he hadn't told me that. He got power back in Moss Bluff last night and friends got theirs back in LC yesterday as well (not sure what area).
I can't believe how "quickly" it seems to be going.

IF anything, maybe they need to go back to 3 day forecasts, because people put waaaay too much faith in a 5 day forecast.
There’s definitely no reason to have the black ‘center’ like in the cone 5 days out.

Yes. 20’. Should just be a downstairs clean up based on the way things are going.

The water was up a little yesterday. We have had the most pleasant breeze out of the North all night and morning so it has dropped a foot and a half.
Fishfighter I include you and Armymann wife in my prayers everyday. Please include me in yours as I am making some hard decisions right now and I’m felling kind of low.
Going to launch a boat in a few minutes to go ride. Always helps. Thanks.
