I have a friend that lives and teaches around Gulfport. They told them they're having school today with a one hour release and they're expected to engage in virtual Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.

This track has Honor Code sad this morning. Looks less likely he will be getting more Federal dollars in his pocket.

Weird Baldwin county didn’t close schools.
Gulf Shores did.

Our kids are older but when they were in school, It wasn’t uncommon to get the notice at 530/6 in the morning.

Of course back then we had to rely more on the news for information and not a text but still.

I heard that on the local news earlier. Doesn’t make sense. Gulf Shores is a Baldwin county school. The school in the neighboring city a few miles down the road is open. Usually it’s one for all and all for one in Baldwin county.

Gulf Shores actually formed their own school system recently. No longer a part of Baldwin.

You know they can't close schools the morning of a school day right?

Missouri says hold my beer.

They close here at like 5:30AM if they determine the ice is too bad.

What about New Orleans. Are we still looking good this morning?

It’s going to be cutting it close in New Orleans proper. You’re likely going to have a hurricane sittting within 40 or so miles of the city in a day or so, but you’re also going to be in the correct side.

Recon finding a still somewhat disorganized system this morning. Deep convection is east of LLC and strongest winds are displaced as well.

All it takes is this thing going west 4/5 more hours than expected to impact LA. It’s certainly reasonable to have off school tomorrow.

It will probably be sunny with a breeze but you can‘t be caught off guard when 30 mins away is getting 2 feet of rain.

When do they expect it to get its act together? You'd think if this thing was going to intensify it would have already started by now.

New Orleans was not forecast even yesterday to have poor weather until Mon evening at the earliest. Nola metro schools should be open today but with an excused absence if people want to use it. That is what my kid’s school in Met did.
