Lol, I grew up in Shreveport, and this was how I felt about Bossier. "Hmmm so if I cross the river then Deliverance happens? Got it."

My wife is like that. She grew up in Central Park literally 200 yards from the river. If she drove over the river into Shreveport, she might as well be in a foreign country. Has absolutely no idea where anything is.

I love Shreveport. I grew up in a small CENLA town and thought Shreveport was the "big dangerous city". Living here 20 years I realized it's a great place, big enough to have all the places to shop or eat, but small enough to be on a lake or in the woods in 20-30 minutes.

As far as crime, we do stay locked and loaded over here.

I had a brief hope that Mayor Perkins would be a spark to revitalize Shreveport, but it became clear just a month or two in that he's a puppet for corrupt businessmen and politicians, same as the rest of them.... The city insurance policy scandal alone should be enough to torpedo Perkins' political career.

The late 80s to early 90's were the worst for homicide

The early 80's kicked arse. Shreve Square used to be a pretty damn nice area.

Nothing for Shreveport natives to feel guilty about, especially if you are older than 20 - even now, it's just as good of a town as any other in LA, but that's not saying much. New Orleans and BR are the only other "big towns" in LA, and they have nothing to brag about anymore - crime, litter, poor education, political corruption, limited corporate job opportunities due to tax structure....should I go on??

I moved 30 years ago and haven't looked back - certainly missed what Shreveport used to have - decent O&G industry with major pipeline companies and independents, some other big industries, more control on crime, cleaner, and a legacy of great athletes and musicians (LA Hayride history), and the racetrack was thriving especially with John Franks' farms and leadership. Hal Sutton and David Toms are in their twilight years, so even the golfing stardom of Shreveport has faded somewhat. Even Shreveport CC closed after its 100th birthday and is gone forever - end of an era, of which some folks might cheer! Time rolls on, and things change!

But, I still miss my hometown and look forward to visiting occasionally and hitting Herby K's, Superior Grill & Steakhouse, Jan's fried fish, and of course, Southern Maid Donuts! But, it's a small city now with limited opportunity - not unlike many cities elsewhere in America who've lost their higher educated population to the bigger cities and higher paying jobs. Mom, Dad, and grandparents are buried there, so it will always be home to me!

Bossier sucks just as hard as Shreveport. Grew up in Shreveport and lived in Bossier for ten years. It's a backwater, backward arse place. But I still love it because it is home and where my family still is.

This is exactly my take on it....as far as crime goes I moved deep into South Shreveport...so I'm good
