Dak Prescot is from Haughton. St. aint Ivy but he’s a star and seems like a good dude.
Previously mentioned John Franks was from haughton, he was an LSU grad and he was a helluva man as far as I can tell. Ivy doesn’t mean dick.
Shreveport’s pretty sad off the main drag but it’s no different than Monroe, BR, Nola Ferriday, etc. When gov pays folks to do nothing instead of folks earning a living, possibly having pride in what they earn and actually giving a shite, things go to shite. That’s where we are.

I'll stop you right there. I've lived a few places in LA, most recently I've loved from Monroe to Shreve...and there is a HUGE difference. Sheeveport has a ton of festivals and events...its not jazzfest level shits, but it's fun and a free or affordable, and occasionally attracts big musical names. The best Monroe had to look forward to was a day on the rivermarket (a ton of stay at home moms selling monogrammed ribbons)capped off by the stars of duck dynasty waving at the crowd for 10 minutes.
Shreveport is no city on the hill or cultural mecca...but it's a hell of a lot better than what most of non-NOLA Louisiana is offering.

High praise.

I see what you’re saying but I’m not talking about festivals and attractions, etc.

Ok, so just be a world class athlete and then your prospects are bright from Haughton. Got it.

It's not like everyone is turning their noses up at all of the opportunity. Shreveport like the rest of the state of Louisiana is an economic wasteland.
I'm not suggesting that one has to go to an Ivy League school to be successful. It was just a shorthand metric for the level of success students achieve. At my public Shreveport High School 10-20 percent of the class went to Ivy League schools. So if that's what the top students do, the rest of the students fall in behind that. If the valedictorian of Haughton High gets a 20 on the ACT. Well...you can extrapolate downwards from there.

It should be pronounced boss-ere not Bozier. But everyone except me is dumb in Louisiana.

Ben Franklin has been the top HS in Louisiana for years and I'd be stunned if 20% of the students went to Ivy League schools

Companies have passed on Shreveport due to lack of a workforce. Same has been mentioned at the state level. How does a lack of workforce happen? It’s been a slow grind over a few generations.

It's been the brain drain of educated people moving out of state. It was a big topic at LSU when I was a freshman in 1996. Hasn't gotten any better 23 years later. We produce capable people but the majority of them leave.

As anecdotal evidence from my own family, and the people I grew up with hardly anybody chose to stay in Shreveport. A few here and there with family businesses and doctors that want to be close to their parents.

We've had companies that want to come here but our local government and city council has routinely screwed the pooch on every opportunity. There are plenty of very well educated people that come here and do well though.

Mine has been somewhat different. Out of 5 grandkids on my dad's side only one left the state. All 5 are college educated and the 4 that stayed have all done well but it's absolutely a real problem for some states including Louisiana.

Whatever happened to the car company that was supposed to introduce the $6K car that was going to change the world?
Really though, N. Bossier is not a bad place to raise a family. Get to meet lots of folks from all different places that moved there from Air Force bases all around the country

The whole Benton Rd./Airline Dr. traffic thing craps on that pretty heavily.

Eh, once you figure out the traffic patterns it's doable.

I have clients that live in that area, there is really no reasonable time of day where the traffic doesn't suck. Most of that is the simple fact that we give retards driver's licenses in this state.
Posted on 6/1/19 at 12:22 am to Clames
I lived there for a few years until 2013. Recently went back to visit for work and didn’t see that much difference in traffic. Traffic situation is by far the best thing about the area. No matter where you are going-Benton Rd to Youree it was 20 min or less. Far better than any other city in the state
