At least they're not shooting people in daiquiri shops.

Shreveport is dated and boring. There are two classes-the wealthy upper class and the poverty class. No middle class. Bad politics has had Shreveport in a downward spiral for years and years—-much like the rest of the state.

No bud... Shreveport has a very low percentage of people who would be considered "upper class". Most of the people in that area are between poor an upper middle class.

There's still some old money in Shreveport, but most of their kids and grandkids have bolted for Dallas

I don’t know about now but South Highlands was a great, great place to live when I lived there in the early 2000’s. Lots of middle class, nice homes with a mix of upper middle class homes.

Shreveport boomed before the 80’s oil bust and was pretty much little Dallas. Then came the casinos that caused an uptick due to tourism and all of that sweet, sweet cash from Texas gamblers. A little bit later came another boost with the film industry.

But then......

It fell victim to what so many other southern cities have fallen victim to: It started electing Democrats to run the city and the downward spiral began. Unfortunately for Shreveport, it has Bossier, Benton and Haughton right across the river and that is where the outmigration went to when Shreveport started trending downward.

Maybe I'm biased by my own experience, but I feel like almost nobody from these places makes it out. Tons of people I grew up and went to school with in Shreveport have gone on to do great things. Has there been one kid from Haughton ever that got into an Ivy League school?

Im not talking about people that grew up in those towns back in the day.

Benton, Bossier and Haughton can’t put up enough McMansion developments for all of the people that have moved across the river or from smaller towns in the area to take advantage of the last stronghold in NW La that isn’t a shite show.

I personally hate Bossier because it wasn’t designed to have the people living there that it has. I’d rather get fisted by a bear than drive up Airline.

It's almost like they should combine and have one moderate, livable place. On the Shreveport side you have the worst aspects of "urban" poverty and Democratic government, and on the Bossier side you have the worst aspects of "rural" poverty and arse backwards redneck culture. I guess that's the story of Louisiana though.

All the old money is dying off, kids and the grandkids are hauling arse outta Shreveport. The good people who lived in Queens Borough, Allendale, and other areas are moving to the middle class areas and the pieces of crap follow them.

But, I still miss my hometown and look forward to visiting occasionally and hitting Herby K's, Superior Grill & Steakhouse, Jan's fried fish, and of course, Southern Maid Donuts! But, it's a small city now with limited opportunity - not unlike many cities elsewhere in America who've lost their higher educated population to the bigger cities and higher paying jobs. Mom, Dad, and grandparents are buried there, so it will always be home to me!

Not from Shreveport but well said baw

Louisiana’s entire population tries to convince themselves that their shitty town is somehow better than the other shitty town that’s better than the other other shitty town down the road.

The whole state is a bunch of shitty towns & cities, trying to convince themselves that “it’s not that bad, at least we aren’t X, Y, Z” but failing to realize they still live in a very shitty part of the US

Go to any small town in Louisiana; you know what you’ll see?
Litter
Run-down buildings ready to fall down
Nasty streets and roads
Mentally ill walking the streets/begging
Saggy pants
Obesity
Heavy meth use
Big trucks
Personal injury attorney billboards
Etc

I was up there for the Independence Bowl in 2017. Went to a liquor store the night before the game. The guy in front of me was talking casually with the staff while they rang him up. I think they were discussing some comparison between the Saints and the Cowboys or something.

Then, in the middle of the conversation, he just slips in "oh, give me a crack pipe with that, please." Didn't even bother with the "Chore Boy and a rose" thing... just came right out with his request for a crack pipe.

Later that night we ate at a Japanese restaurant. While waiting for our food, we watched security camera footage of that same restaurant getting burglarized on my phone.
