Where does rust stand on your list of things you'd like to eliminate from this planet? Seems like it serves no purpose. Don't encounter it every day, but when you do it's a bitch.

you don’t know what rust is do you?

A lot of industries would be looking for your head if you did away with it. Iron oxide is an incredibly useful catalyst in chemical reactions.

Oh but it does.

It's not even on the list.
What is, one word titles.

Pretty low 99.99999999% of the time. I'm sure there's been that 0.00000001% of the time I've found it annoying, but it's basically been a non-issue in my life up to this point.
I'd much rather eliminate mosquitos, ticks, cancer, and deficit spending.

It is part of the natural process to return things to their basic forms.
Rust can be managed.

The oxidation of iron serves no purpose?

Almost exactly in that order.

Above things that need painting yet far below mosquitos

Uhh.... it wasn't invented for commercial or residential purposes. It's literally just a chemical reaction.

Let's start by making it illegal. That will choke off the supply until it's hard to acquire. Maybe get a "voluntary" rust registry. Maybe a "rust turn-in" initiative.
Maybe we can save a life or two.

It has literally ZERO nutritional value, buddy. At least iron is necessary for good health.

And this is why Science should still be mandatory for the ACT

You just reminded me that Alec Baldwin shot that lady in the face.

What purpose do you have for the oxidation of iron? Maybe the world needs to be educated on what we use in our everyday lives that we could produce without that chemical process?

Indirectly it does.

Rust returns iron to its most stable natural state, locking up reactive oxygen and enriching the soil. While corrosion is damaging to human infrastructure, it is a fundamental geological process that sequesters atmospheric oxygen and cycles vital iron back into natural ecosystems.
quote:
Oxygen Sequestration: Rusting (oxidation) essentially acts as a chemical sink for the abundant oxygen produced by Earth's plants and microbes. Over billions of years, this process has locked away excess oxygen, helping to stabilize the planet's atmospheric composition.
quote:
Soil Enrichment: Iron is an essential nutrient for plants and aquatic life. As iron objects rust in nature, they break down into iron oxides (like hematite and goethite), which act as natural fertilizers and help foster plant growth.
quote:
Planetary Recycling: Iron is continuously recycled through the environment. Rusting is just the first step in this natural loop, returning refined metals back into the soil, where they are integrated into terrestrial and marine food webs.
