No link, my family was involved in incident.

Southwest flight from Denver to Vegas. They were about to touch down when pilot had to pull up very sharply because he was landing on a runway that had another plane on it.

My family is ok but badly shaken. Guess there were no news crews there so it didn't make the news. It sounds to me like an incident that should be reported to NTSB with urgency. And I wonder how many other such close calls happen regularly and are not reported.

It sounds like an awful air traffic control mistake.

I'm thanking the good Lord for watching over my family and the entire plane. How did things get so bad? Rhetorical question, I have a very good guess. Hug your people!

Glad it had a happy ending. People will just have to understand that diversity in the control tower is the top priority.

Really? I can see where they would be upset, but "badly shaken"? They likely didn't even see what was happening.

Your family wouldn't be black by any random chance would they?

Had that happen once on a Southwest flight landing at Midway.

Pilot pulled up hard and said, "there was a plane on the runway, we're gonna circle around and try again."

Aborted flights aren’t all that uncommon.

The landing gear was down, you dufus, and they could see the runway. And then the plane had to do a nearly 90 degree angle ascent, and started shaking, and they could feel the landing gear retracting.

I will completely ignore the other part of your.....'question.'

I wouldn’t say go arounds are frequent but if you travel with any regularity, you’ll experience them.

The good news is the pilots are trained on how to handle this.

This was an aborted landing. With the landing gear down. And plane ascending at nearly 90 degree angle. If there is anything 'common' about such a situation we need to nuke the entire system from space and start over.

Might have been more dramatic than normal but no where close to 90 degrees

Prayers for the near miss and the travel voucher (and new set of knickers) your family is about to receive due to "emotional distress."

Given that half the family group were men (manly ones unlike you) it was NOT ''female hysterics.' Go sit down now!
