There are youtube channels that frequently review incidents like this. Do a search for some of the keywords in a couple of weeks, and you might find some. They'll usually have graphics and ATC audio.

Probably not as bad as the time I tried to land my flying saucer in the middle of Texas but there was a herd of cattle grazing below me. I was shooketh.

Glad it had a happy ending. People will just have to understand that diversity in the control tower is the top priority.

I think that we can all agree that it is acceptable to take some casualties as we strive to fundamentally transform the USA.

Oh FFS, no it didn't, not even close. Their limit is around 30°.
Your embellished reply shows desperation to prove nothing. They were fine, maybe asking questions to each other.

they could feel the landing gear retracting.

You mean like on every flight after takeoff to reduce drag?

You sound really dramatic. Your family was never in danger. The pilots saw a plane on the runway and did a go around. Happens all the time. The crews are trained to be prepared for it.

Since it’s obvious you are clueless about the commercial aviation industry let me assure you the FAA and NTSB get involved in incidences much, much smaller than yours.

Glad you and your family are ok.

I’ve had two aborted landings and one aborted takeoff. The aborted takeoff will, briefly, make you shite a brick. We lost an engine right before takeoff.

Aborted landings - not a big deal.

I've heard there are close type calls every day in the busiest airports. The put too many jets in a small space and try to get them all lined up to land.

Glad your family is safe and I know this must have been a scary event for all of you. But as others have said, this was a rare but routine event known as a go-around. I assure you, if the ascent had been anywhere near 90 degrees in a 737, the outcome would not have been good.

Happened to me at DFW a few months back. Although it was awkward and not at all normal, it wasn’t that big of a deal.

We didn’t hit another plane, and obviously you didn’t either.

I wasn’t a drama queen about it.

Airlines do a lot of things wrong, thankfully crashing doesn’t even sniff the list.

They might have experienced a 20 degree ascent but I highly doubt it was even that steep.

Why would news crews just randomly be hanging out at an airport “just in case” a runway incursion happens?

That’s not how it works. News crews are told after the event and investigate in the following days/weeks depending on the severity.

If it was a “routine” go around due to aircraft on the runway, then it may not even make the news since there were no injuries or casualties. Go arounds happen literally every day.

quote:

It sounds to me like an incident that should be reported to NTSB with urgency.

If it truly is a go-around due to traffic on the runway it was reported almost immediately and will be investigated.

quote:

And I wonder how many other such close calls happen regularly and are not reported

To the FAA?
None. It’s not exactly like you can hide these things. Every go -around is labeled and must have a reason attached to it. Especially air transport.

To the news media?
Very few unless they cause an accident which this one did not.

These are my favorite OT threads. Someone comes in with some exaggerated story, and then is just ripped to shreds for 3 pages.

Even in a 'slam dunk' descent they don't reach that angle.

And yes aborted landings happen a lot....you just hear about it more because of social media......

Sounds like your family might have overreacted to a simple go around situation.

Reaction is probably more that they 'almost landed on a plane' rather than the go around.
