Got some new info:
Mayor Landrieu was going to remove some monuments at 1am with the help of Big Yellow Construction LLC. This was a company that was not included in the bid process. Word got out and Mitch cancelled. Some pretty shady stuff.

Who cares, it'll always be called Lee circle anyway to actual locals. They'll come down now or latter.

I think the people it offends to take them down won't riot and steal. I think they will not patronage the city of New Orleans. My wife and I make 3 to 4 weekend trips a year there. It's a short drive for us and always fun. New Orleans is obviously a huge tourist city , which counts on tourist dollars rolling in. We have other options for getaway weekends.
Sounds as if their mayor has some back door money to gain by getting this done.
It will be interesting to see if they do come down ..... What will be their next target
Anyhow, we look forward to a little golf near Mobile this weekend.

Where did you hear this
Must be Germans but I just read on wwl that nungesser sent a letter to trump imploring him to make moves to keep the statues. I really like trump so I think he will stay away from this but I have heard some conflicting things from his camp lately so who knows. I am all about keeping the statues.

Someone I know who claims to know said the plan was to pull two down tonight, but that has been scrapped since word got out about it.

this is looking more and more like a total debacle, I can see people turning out and blocking construction equipment at Lee Circle in particular...

Assuming the city only has the money to remove one of the monuments, then Lee would be it. It would take at least several hours just to set up the crane, rigging, and lighting for a night job. No way they could safely get Lee down in one midnight run. Also OSHA has fall protection regulations that would apply to working at that height, and which are probably even more strict if not prohibitive if the work is to be done at night. It would be incredibly irresponsible for the city to attempt this at night.

I hope that statue climbs down on its own and starts slaughtering them all.
This would make an awesome Night at the Museum squeal.

If they're going to remove it, they should be forced to make an announcement about it, & remove it in broad daylight. I understand the fact that they're such pussies, they evidently cannot function & continue on with their lives because of some statue, but their pussification shouldn't exempt them from having to face the consequences of it. Fricking idiot cowards.

Leave the statues and remove Mitch. Leave him wherever they were going to put the monuments.

I'd like to put in a bid on the statue once they take it down. It would look great in my living room.
