The Leblanc’s in Pville was the shite back in ‘05 before Katrina refugees flooded the area.

This x100. When Leblanc's built the new Frais Marche' on Airline, that place was awesome. The salad bar & hot bar were top notch, and I would eat there several times a week for lunch or supper, breakfast even. After Rouse's bought out Leblanc's, the prepared food went to absolute shite. The bakery is still decent, but the salad bar & hot bar are usually terrible.

The produce at the one near me in Covington is just not good. They do still have a good selection of the other stuff though.

Honestly the only Rouses that are decently run in the Baton Rouge area is the one on Lee @ Burbank and the one on Airline @ Antioch. All the others are horrible.

The one in Zachary is terrible. It makes the Winn Dixie nearby look good.

Not all of it is Rouse's fault. I believe they lease that location, and the landowner has some parking lot and lighting issues to work out.

They pay less than most stores, so they get the bottom of barrel. My son worked there over holidays and people got fired or quit daily, including department managers. Some left for better paying stores like Publix.

Rouses varies a lot by locations.

There are two on Gause and the one off exit 266 is way better than the one at Hwy 11.

FWIW, Rouses' owners live in Thibodaux, small town USA plus. And live in Palm Springs, Hollywood-type mansions. All to the good as the store started as a small, poppa - run original store on a corner location.

A lot of it has to do with the worker pool from which they draw. I shop at the one on Tchoupitoulas, and it is a nice store, although I occasionally go to the one in Mandeville and I can see a marked improvement in terms of store employees.

There's a rouses topic every week and I post the same thing in it:

Rouses is just an "upscaled" champagnes with more expensive groceries and an overrated deli/hot food area. It's crap.

The amount of passion about grocery store quality in this thread is indicative of the how much the OT is aging.

I like that Rouses appear to hire a lot of employees. Having jobs for people is good. I dont mind paying a little extra.

if you'd have been in that WD Sunday around noon, you'd think otherwise. Total clusterfrick. You're correct about the Rouses location. but I was in and out of there in no time. WD was about as efficient as a Popeyes.

I've always heard new stand-alone Rouses are nice but ones that they converted from old bought grocery store chains are shitty.

The one by my house is total shite and expensive. I don't mind expensive if they a nice like the ones off Airline but expensive and dirty isn't getting my money.

then go use those other stores

I do. Which is the point of this thread. I'd rather go to Rouse's since its more convenient for me. But their shite inventory has me going out of my way to other options.
